The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the work of Proyecto Hombre from the Therapeutic Community ‘As Cernadas’, where he valued and thanked the 15 professionals who work there for their contribution and dedication to improve the lives of the 45 people served in the center. He was accompanied by the mayor of Val do Dubra, Diego Díaz; the president of Project Home Galicia, Ofelia Debén; the president of the Board of Trustees of the Monte del Gozo Foundation and founder of Project Home Galicia, Ramón Gómez Crespo; the deputy mayor, Antonio Negreira, and the councilor for Social Services, Carmen Vilacoba.
Pedro Blanco stressed the government’s commitment to the total eradication of drug use, “a social scourge that affects countless families.” The delegate noted the progress that has been made since the implementation of the National Plan on Drugs, which came into being in 1985 and since then “has helped thousands of Galician families to regain hope for the life and future of their loved ones.”
In that sense, the delegate took the opportunity to thank all those families for their fight against drugs in the 1980s, “because without their involvement it would not be possible to have reached the level of professionalism against addictions that we currently have.” The Addiction Action Plan 2021-2024 lists 46 actions and 135 activities under the principles of effectiveness, efficiency and resource optimization; in addition to constant self-evaluation.
The delegate also wanted to highlight the Government’s actions to advance the improvement of mental health, emphasizing the Mental Health Strategy 2024-2026. This plan is focused on the cross-cutting application of mental care in all areas of the National Health System, through the support and treatment of people affected by mental health problems but also of their families.
