The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, reaffirmed in the closure of ‘O Encontro’, on the Greenland Island of A Toxa, the commitment that the Government of Spain has with the digital transformation of the Galician productive fabric. The event was attended by, in addition to the delegate, the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda; the mayor of O Grove, José Cacabelos; the president of the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Galicia, Juan Manuel Vieites; the director of the Santander Bank in Galicia, Rocío Pazos Toba; the director of ‘O Encontro’, Juan Martín Rodríguez, and the president of Cesuga, Venancio Salcines, entity organizing the event.
Pedro Blanco highlighted that the Government of Spain comes from approving the Artificial Intelligence Strategy, key to digital transformation. Its objectives are to reinforce the key levers for the development of this technology itself, to facilitate its expansion in both the public and private sectors to promote innovation and cybersecurity of both and to ensure transparency, responsibility and the humanistic vision of Artificial Intelligence as technology applicable to the most diverse fields.
“In this last chapter is framed the creation of the State Agency for Supervision of Artificial Intelligence, the AESIA, which will have, which has, its headquarters in Galicia, in A Coruña, and which the Minister of Digital Transformation, José Luis Escrivá, was able to meet in person in the building of La Terraza”, said the delegate, who delved into the great importance that the AESIA will have to place Galicia on the map of Artificial Intelligence at European level, “as will also the City of ICT, our universities or the ecosystem related to this excellent field.”
Pedro Blanco stressed the impact that the Government’s Digital Spain 2026 Agenda is having at a general level, focused on advancing the digital transformation of the different productive sectors “without stopping putting people at the center or leaving any Spanish territory behind”. The delegate recalled the three axes on which this strategy is based: “infrastructure, technology and people, through strategic projects that have public-private collaboration and joint action of the Government and the autonomous communities”.
The delegate stressed that the Government is leading the business modernization in Galicia through the Recovery Plan, “whose funds today reach more than 41,000 beneficiary entities in the community, of which 31,000 are companies, that is, more than three out of four”. In that sense, he recalled that the initiative of a single actor does not work if the rest of them are not involved, so he recalled the importance of “rowing all and all in the same direction” by the digital transformation.
A clear strategy for the right digital transformation
The strategy launched by the Spanish Government “has ambitious objectives”, in the words of Pedro Blanco. He highlighted the ‘UNICO Program’, “with which we are bringing the ultra-fast internet connection to 236,000 Galician homes and companies, which until now did not have this service, and whose goal is to cover 100% of the territory before the end of 2025”.
In parallel, there is the ‘Accelerate SME’ program, in which strategies such as the Digital Kit are framed, which has distributed more than 107 million euros in Galicia, “and with which we are promoting innovation in this field and the construction of the reference ecosystem of the digital transformation of SMEs, promoting the updating of the managerial, autonomous and entrepreneurial people,” explained the delegate.
He also mentioned other plans of the Government to improve the relationship of people with the administration, such as the ‘RuralTIC’, the ‘Administration Near You’ or the mobile application ‘My Citizen Folder’. “In fact, Cesuga, the organizer of ‘O Encontro’, works hand in hand with the Government for the training of managers in digital skills, from which surely many of the companies present here are benefiting.”
