The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, highlighted today in Padrón the commitment of the Government with the Camino de Santiago with security plans and improvements in the Xacobe routes during the inauguration of the IV International Day of Police Cooperation Xacobea.
The subdelegate highlighted the work carried out by the different Security Forces and Bodies to guarantee a safe Camino, “one of our most international tourist experiences, which year after year brings together hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world, and for which we mobilize in Galicia more than 3,600 troops along the more than 1,600 kilometers of routes within our community, of which 956 are in the province of A Coruña”.
In this way, he said that this summer four police forces from Europe, and South America are working on coordinating the deployment of troops to ensure the safety of travelers. Thus, he took the opportunity to thank the agents from Italy, Brazil, France, and Portugal “for the support they give us to protect the travelling people”.
María Rivas detailed several of the measures carried out throughout the territory such as the deployment of the Mobile Offices of Attention to the Pilgrim, which, for the fourth consecutive summer, will be available all the way until November 1 providing assistance and demonstrating great effectiveness in the response offered. He also made reference to the information campaign #NoCaminasSola, which will extend to more than 1,600 points located in pilgrimage areas throughout Galicia, of which 763 are in the province of A Coruña, to attend to women who make the way that already represent 53% of the total number of walkers.
In addition, he insisted that the Ministry of the Interior facilitates the mobile application ALERTCOPS, which offers additional coverage to the entire route of the Camino, allowing the pilgrim who wishes to have services such as 24 hours a day care, as well as calls and alerts located in real time, all in 7 different languages.
“Our province, as the final stage of the Camino, has the singularity of grouping all the Xacobe routes, and in all of them the Civil Guard is present. The size of his work can be given by the figures, during the last year the work carried out by the Civil Guard of A Coruña linked to the xacobeo, involved more than 6,000 services, 1,900 actions, 193 aid and rescues and 963 controls and identifications. A great job to be proud and proud of,” said Rivas.
Finally, the subdelegate recalled the daily and daily service performed by the different groups, associations and NGOs, which thanks to their joint action in the management of the Compostela route manage to meet the needs of pilgrims and protect the values associated with the pilgrimage.
