The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, reported that 157,417 people participated last year in the activities of the Plan of Coexistence of Education, 25% more than those of the previous year. Of this total, 144,000 were students and the rest, teachers and parents. He pointed this out at the meeting of the autonomous commission of follow-up of the Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments, which he presided over today in the Government Delegation and in which the data of the academic year 2023-2024 in Galicia were analyzed.
In the course of the same, Pedro Blanco highlighted that 950 centers from all over Galicia participated in this program, which means that almost eight out of ten schools and institutes in the community hosted activities in this academic year that has come to an end. In total, there were 4,606 training and prevention actions, 12% more than in the previous year.
Regarding the content, the delegate indicated that half of the talks focused on issues such as cybersecurity, especially the protection of minors on social networks, and bullying. There were also activities on addictions, the problem of violent groups and hate crimes, “topics that are for us a map of the concerns of the educational community of Galicia,” said Pedro Blanco.
In addition to training, the Master Plan provides for the monitoring of schools. They are actions that respond to needs detected by the Police and Civil Guard or communicated by the management of the center. In this regard, he stressed that last year in Galicia more than 11,728 vigilances were carried out in schools and institutes that allowed the deactivation of 15 drug sales points.
In this regard, he took advantage of the meeting to thank the specialized teams of the Civil Guard and National Police, the educational inspection of the Xunta, and the personnel of the Inspection area of the Government Delegation, the subdelegations and the schools involved in the Coexistence Plan, “a plan that allows us to avoid desired behaviors and make our youth grow in a safe and healthy environment.”
In view of the next course, explained the delegate, the objective of the plan is to strengthen the involvement of the mothers and fathers of the students. “We will continue to work so that these activities reach more people, strengthening the participation of ANPAS and also the dissemination of content on violence against women, since both the institutions and the educational community are increasingly aware that learning about security is an indisputable part of the training of any child,” he concluded.
