The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, visited this morning the new Police and Customs Cooperation Center of Tui. The deputy delegate stressed that these works, which amount to € 3,313,766.84 and are financed by the Ministry of the Interior, demonstrate the determined commitment of the Government of Spain to improve the infrastructures and services of this border town. It did so at the foot of the new Police and Customs Cooperation Center of Galicia (CCPA), a unique center for its characteristics and that comes to replace the former Hispanic Police Station Lusa. One building, Losada stressed, which “is also a reference at European level of joint work of the Security Forces and Corps of two countries in the heart of one of the most active and fluid Euroregions of Europe”.
During the visit, the deputy delegate was accompanied by the mayor of Tui, Enrique Cabaleiro; the provincial chief commissioner, Juan José Díaz; and the lieutenant of the Civil Guard, Víctor Ahedo. At the meeting, he realised that the government is awarding the supply of furniture for this building, the last step that was pending and that will allow the CCPA to begin operating over the next few months. The implementation of this Center “will mean a qualitative change in police work at this crucial point in the line,” he explained.
No CCPA will work 14 National Police officers under the command of an inspector, along with two officers and agents. On the part of the Civil Guard they will be a total of 11 troops. In this base will also be present the Spanish Customs Surveillance Service and, on the Portuguese side, GNR (National Republican Guard), the Judicial Police, the Public Security Police, the Tax Authority and the Maritime Police.
The most modern CCPA in Spain
The Police and Customs Cooperation Center of Tui is one of the nine centers of this type that exist in Spain. When it comes into operation it will be the most modern of all the existing ones, with a built area of 1,193.76 square meters.
The new building has two connected building bodies, one for administrative work and one for covered parking. The main building houses offices, meeting rooms, changing rooms, toilets, rest rooms and armours. The main access to the building will be done by the Avenida de Portugal, while the access of vehicles will be done by the crossing.
More than 17 million euros to transform the city
The deputy delegate also reviewed some of the main investments that the Government of Spain is making in Tui, “and that are contributing decisively to its transformation.” In this regard, he highlighted the investments in the framework of the Program to Promote the Rehabilitation of Public Buildings (PIREP), which will improve the energy efficiency of the multipurpose building on Calle Camilo José Cela and will also make possible the recovery of the Main Theater, an old demand that will finally be met thanks to the arrival of the funds of the Government Recovery Plan. The deputy delegate also stressed that European funds are the ones that are allowing the modernization of the municipal market and its environment.
Regarding the conservation of the heritage, in this case the natural, the subdelegate also valued the actions of the Mi⦅⦆ -Sil Hydrographic Confederation to build a pedestrian walkway at the mouth of the Rojizo River and improve the environment of the Caselas River.
No chapter of infrastructure, Abel Losada recalled that the City of Tui benefited in recent years from several actions of the Ministry of Transport for an amount of more than 11 million euros to, among others, renew the infrastructures and tracks of the railway section Guillarei-Portuguese Border Station, adapt the museum uses of the cathedral complex (1.5% cultural), rehabilitate the Specialized Center for Sports Technification (CETD) and adapt and improve a section of the Camino de Santiago Portuguesa on the N-550.
All these investments, which are complemented by other investments aimed at elaborating the Urban Agenda, developing the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans (PTSD), creating an Acelera SME office or continuing with the Aula Mentor, “demonstrate the commitment of the Government of Spain and its president, Pedro Sánchez, with Tui and with each and every one of the municipalities of the province,” concluded the subdelegate.
