The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, held a meeting with representatives of the associations of entrepreneurs and businesswomen, chambers of commerce, with the aim of informing them of the #NoCaminasSola campaign that takes place along the Camino de Santiago.
María Rivas explained that the #NoCaminasSola initiative offers pilgrim women all the information of emergencies and the resources of the Security Forces and Bodies to which they can go along the Camino. This information is accessible on the different routes that run through the province until reaching Santiago, in points such as hostels, tourist offices, police and civil guard offices and local police, health centers, pharmacies and public hospitals.
In this regard, he stressed the importance of adding other types of establishments to the campaign, especially those related to hospitality and commerce so that pilgrims can access this information, for which he requested the collaboration of the entities present. “Engaging business, hospitality and industry associations and entities will further the campaign’s objectives. It is about adding, collaborating and providing support to the women who make the Camino, and putting at their disposal not only information but also spaces to approach and feel protected, listened to, in short: safe,” he said.
Thus, he invited to add more establishments to the 763 current information points in the province, where they have posters and cards printed in Spanish, English and Galician and which also incorporate a QR code that gives them access to available resources and information on gender violence. The subdelegate also explained that “we have the AlertCops application, which we can easily install on the mobile, and which allows to communicate alerts in real time and send the geolocation”.
María Rivas stressed that “there are more and more women who for various reasons carry out this pilgrimage, and we are seeing how year after year their presence is going to increase. In fact, they already represent 53% of the people who make the way (more than 230,000 women in the last year), women who in many cases walk alone and without company,” said the deputy delegate.
The subdelegate wanted to thank the Association of Entrepreneurs of A Coruña AECO, the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Galicia and Businesswomen Galicia for their presence at the meeting. He also took the opportunity to explain and value the work, carried out in this campaign by both the Civil Guard and the National Police, as well as to thank the College of Pharmacists and Pharmacists of Galicia for its involvement.
“This campaign, #NoCaminasSola, is part of the Government’s action to work for a more egalitarian society, a safer and therefore freer environment for all women. Our commitment is to continue working so that in the near future, such initiatives are not necessary,” he concluded.
