The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided this morning together with the Mayor, José Manuel López, the common meeting of the Xunta Local de Seguridad where an analysis of the security in the city of La Laracha was made, and also addressed the security in the events linked to the summer period.
Regarding the analysis of the security data, the Government subdelegate highlighted as positive those of the city of Laracha, stating that it is a safe city since it has a crime rate of 25.2 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants, which places it 12 points below the provincial average that is 37.5, and 10 points below the Galician average that is 35.2; and in the half of the state that is 51.2 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants.
He also stressed that these are data that improve those of the previous year in the comparison of the first semester, since on average the number of crimes decreased by 6%, registering improvements in all modalities: serious, less serious and minor; as well as criminal offenses.
In the course of the meeting, a review was also made of the events and festivities that have already taken place, and of those planned for the next dates, where the Civil Guard provided reinforcement and assistance at the request of the city council, work that will continue after this you will see.
María Rivas pointed out the importance of the collaboration and coordination of administrations as an essential tool to improve protection and security, especially during celebrations, tourist events and patron saint’s parties, and called on all attendees to always respect the safety standards for each event.
VioGén system
During her speech to subdelegada, she encouraged the city council to continue with the collaboration through the VioGén system for the protection of victims of gender violence. In the province there are 23 municipalities fully adhered to the VioGén system and there are 8 more in process.
Thus, the Government is working to establish, through VioGén, a network that allows for the rapid, comprehensive and effective monitoring and protection of women victims of gender-based violence, and their sons and daughters, in any part of the national territory. To this end, it is essential to the collaboration of municipalities as the institution that is closest to the territory and closest to the victims.
Rivas indicated that today we have 2,412 active cases in the province, “we have to continue working tirelessly to protect each of the women who are within the VioGén system, they are 2,412 lives conditioned by the violence and structural that is machismo, and they need our daily effort to protect them and their families. All efforts are necessary, those of the Local Police and the Civil Guard, but also those of the whole society.” In this regard, he appealed not to turn his back on violent and sexist behaviour, but to denounce it.
The subdelegate indicated that for this we have measures such as the State Pact, of which the city of A Laracha is beneficiary, which received 64,655.78 euros since 2018, to develop equality policies, awareness-raising actions and activities aimed at achieving a more egalitarian society and with zero tolerance with male violence.
Being sufficient in this matter, the subdelegate encouraged the city of A Laracha to continue working on prevention and awareness through the interinstitutional coordination table against gender violence that has already been established, and which also exists in 39 other municipalities of the province.
