The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, moved today to Miño where together with the mayor, Manuel Vázquez Faraldo, they visited the area a few days before the end of the performances and before the beginning of the summer season. The objective was to monitor the state of the recovery of the dunar space and the marshes of the Playa Grande, in which the Government, through the Ministry of Ecological Transition, invested 1,375,028.27 euros.
The deputy delegate pointed out that this action responds to the requests of the City Council and the mayor himself with the aim of revaluing a beach so emblematic and of such importance for this city. He added that the goal is “to make the use of citizens and tourists compatible with environmental protection.”
María Rivas, was also accompanied by the head of the acting Coastal Demarcation, Carlos Gil, who together with the mayor and members of the corporation visited the area of the dunes where invasive plants and allochthonous species were removed. The regeneration of this space also addressed the installation of protective measures delimiting the protected areas with wood and rope, in order to impact as little as possible on the surrounding landscape.
The recovery of the area of the marshes, occupied for years by a football field, is another of the actions carried out in this regeneration, always with all the necessary precautions to preserve the shellfish banks, had as a primary objective the recovery of the natural environment through the correction of impacts and the rearrangement of uses.
The rehabilitation works of the Grande beach include the replacement of the wooden walkway by another of a material more in accordance with the environment and easier to maintain.
The subdelegate recalled that the priority and concern was always “to protect this natural space and recover that area from the marshes to improve the quality of life of the neighbors of the municipality” and that with this action of the Government, the city of Miño recovers an active grain for tourism and for the enjoyment of the neighborhood, especially in the summer season. In this sense, he recalled that both the regeneration and the protection of this beach was an old demand of the city of Miño that today is fully materialized.
María Rivas also wanted to point out that in the regeneration works carried out on this beach, it also had great importance as a component of circular economy, since all the wood that was removed in its days from the old walkways will be used in different projects that the City of Miño will develop.
