The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the figure of Francisco Asorey as “one of the most important revolutionaries of Galician art, capable of changing the world through his ideas”. Pedro Blanco took part in the celebration of the 63rd anniversary of Asorey’s death in Santiago de Compostela, organized by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. The mayor of Santiago, Goretti Sanmartín, and the president of the Real Academia de Belas Artes, Manuel Quintana Martelo, as well as other authorities and family members of the artist attended.
Pedro Blanco stressed the importance in the present of the values that moved Asorey, based on words, culture and art. He valued the artist’s ability to place Galicia on the map of modern sculpture, “being Asorey one of the most important representatives of the Spanish sculptural renewal of the 20th century”. The delegate highlighted the sculptor’s skills to “give life and feeling to inert materials, something that made him practically a sorcerer of nature.”
“Events like today’s, which highlight the figure of great figures of Galician culture such as Francisco Asorey, serve to make our art timeless, making the most important works of it reach all audiences, large and small,” recalled the delegate. He paused on this issue, also highlighting the Government’s action to preserve and encourage the Galician heritage, “through improvement work such as those carried out in the city of Compostela itself, in its Cathedral or in buildings as unique as the Pazo de Raxoi or the Hostal de los Reyes Católica”.
