The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, supervised the placement of the rainbow flag on the balcony of the government headquarters and highlighted the firm support of the Government of Spain so that all people, regardless of their sexual orientation, can lead a full and free life.
The subdelegation of the Government joins for the first time in the placement of the flag on its facade, with this act the subdelegate also wanted to value the State Strategy for the equal treatment and non-discrimination of LGTBI+ people and the State Strategy for the social inclusion of trans people.
Both strategies contain measures aimed at making further progress in the acquisition of rights, the implementation of specialized services, and if necessary, to attend to the victims of hate crimes or discrimination based on LGTBIphobia, with special emphasis on combating hate speech.
To this end, for example, telephone number 028, a telephone service for information, legal advice and immediate psychosocial attention to all forms of violence due to LGTBIphobia, a totally free service that serves 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, is put into operation.
The subdelegate recalled that according to the Rainbow Index indicator, (which is produced annually by the international federation of entities that fight for the rights of lesbian, gay, trans, bisexual and intersex people), Spain is currently the fourth country in the world where the rights of LGBTI+ people are most respected, this body also points out that Spain is a country with a good quality of life for LGBTI+ people compared to other countries in our environment and the rest of the world.
María Rivas stressed that “we can and must continue to advance in everything that leads us to achieve real equality. We know that there are spaces for improvement in which to work to build a more inclusive, diverse and egalitarian society, and we must do it together without leaving room for regression. We can’t afford to take any steps backwards.”
