The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, stressed “the commitment of the Government with the contribution of the necessary means to respond to the forest fires”. He transferred it during this morning’s meeting of the Provincial Police Coordination Committee against forest fires.
At the meeting, María Rivas reiterated the commitment of the Government of Spain in the fight against fires with the contribution of human, air and technological means that are ready and prepared for its intervention during this summer’s forest fire campaign. The subdelegate said that “this commitment has as premises the loyal cooperation between administrations to offer the best response and the coordination of the available means to be effective in the prevention and extinction of fires.”
The subdelegate insisted that as advanced last week by the government delegate, Pedro Blanco, the device will be made up of 4,000 troops, among the Military Emergency Unit (UME), Civil Guard, Forest Fire Brigade (BRIF), Northern Third of the Navy and Land Army, Civil Guard and National Police. He also indicated that as in previous years, there will be a dozen aircraft, including aircraft, helicopters, light and reconnaissance aircraft, that will be deployed during the summer and that will remain until October 31. Regarding the technological means, he indicated that in addition to the 30 drones that will participate in the monitoring of the mountains through Operation Sentinel, a new terrestrial attack drone that has just been acquired by the UME will be available. Together with all these means, the Xunta will also be able to make use of the images of the Copernicus satellite surveillance system through the General Directorate of Civil Protection of the Ministry of the Interior.
All these media are part of the campaign designed by the Government, “a nation-wide campaign in which the response is coordinated and unique, and in which, if necessary, the media deployed in other provinces or in other communities could move to our province, to the place where the emergency exists.”
The subdelegate, María Rivas, wanted to value and thank the professionalism and involvement of both the staff working on this fire-prevention and extinguishing device, and the State security forces and bodies linked to it.
