The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, celebrated today the recovery of the historicist pavilion and the perimeter wall of the monastery of San Martín Pinario, a performance that had a budget of 1,148,005.37 euros, of which the Government contributed 75% (861,004.03 euros) through the program of 2% Cultural of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda.
Today Pedro Blanco presided over the inauguration of this recovery together with the Archbishop of Santiago, Monsignor Francisco Prieto, in an act in which he was accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas. During this visit he stressed that this action “allows Santiago to add a new element to its already rich historical heritage, while citizens and visitors gain a new cultural space and public use”. And this is possible, he said, “thanks to the government’s commitment to the recovery of Compostela’s heritage.”
In this regard, the delegate recalled that two other unique works in this field are currently being carried out, such as the restoration of roofs, façades and the improvement of the accessibility of the Pazo de Raxoi, in which the Government invests 3 million euros through the Impulsa Patrimony Plan of the Ministry of Industry, or the rehabilitation of the Hostal dos Reis Católica, an action that began with the Royal Chapel and that, like the Pazo de Raxoi, finances with more than 13 million euros the Ministry of Industry with funds from the Government Recovery Plan.
“They are three examples of how the Government of Spain promotes the heritage recovery of this city, continuing the work of recent years in the Cathedral of Santiago through different ministries,” explained the delegate, who pointed out that these actions also exemplify the collaboration between public administrations and the managers of these goods, such as the Archbishopric, “a collaboration that shows how joint work, with passion and rigor, makes this city transcend and remains the best goal of the best Camino.”
Expansion of 2% Cultural funds
Pedro Blanco took advantage of the inauguration of the historicist pavilion of San Martín Pinario to highlight the Government’s 2% Cultural program, which promotes the recovery of historical heritage, by allocating a percentage of public works budgets to cultural investments.
This respect, the delegate explained that today we talk about the 2% Cultural “is because in the last legislature we increased this percentage from 1.5%, which meant raising the funds available for this program by 20%, to the 80 million euros of the last call, which is not yet awarded”, he said.
The recovery of the pavilion of the Compostelian monastery was part of a call that promoted 11 performances in localities such as A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense, Tui or O Barco de Valdeorras. “We talk about an investment of 5.2 million euros in the recovery of different patrimonial and architectural elements and, in many of them, in their conversion into spaces for public and cultural use, as well as what we inaugurate today,” added Blanco.
“All of us here share the idea that recovering our heritage is a country project, and today we are moving forward in the construction of a better Santiago and a better Galicia through this new cultural equipment,” he concluded.
