The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, claimed in Ames the government’s commitment to promote “cities for people” through the more than 190 million euros of the Recovery Plan. Pedro Blanco highlighted the Government’s Urban and Rural Agenda, “which symbolizes the commitment to concrete urban development, marked by an equitable, fair and sustainable accent.” He did so during the presentation of the Ames Urban Agenda, in which he was accompanied by the mayor, Blas García.
Pedro Blanco stressed the “pride” that the transformation that Ames is carrying out represents for the government. “The efforts they carry out show the unfailing intention that the City Council has had for years to make this city a place according to the needs of its neighbors,” said the delegate, who also stressed the “responsibility” that the local government has demonstrated “to stop and rethink, always with the neighborhood interests ahead, the entire urban space in which they live.”
The delegate stressed the idea that Ames is becoming, after so many years of efforts by its municipal administration, “a city for people; welcoming, healthy, sustainable and participatory; or what it is, a place for people and for people.” That is why Pedro Blanco highlighted the close collaboration that municipalities must have with the rest of the Administrations, “as Ames does, aware that it is the time of the Concellos”.
“Initiatives such as the humanization of the N-550 as it passes through the Milladoiro, which will be a before and after in its mobility, are examples of the objective that we share from the Government of Spain in urban matters and that Ames is executing perfectly, taking advantage of the Recovery Plan,” said Pedro Blanco, who advocated to promote “a change in the urban model in favor of sustainable policies in terms of public space, infrastructure and mobility, which take space from the car in favor of the pedestrian, the cyclist and in general, to promote the renewal of the landscape of cities to the measure of the people.”
The delegate also highlighted other actions implemented in Ames through European funds, such as the renewal of public lighting, with more than 4,500 points in rural parishes to boost their energy efficiency, or the digitalization of the municipality, providing broadband to 492 homes and companies.
