The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, supervised this morning the progress of the works for the construction of the Museum of Antonio Fraguas, “Forges”, with which A Fonsagrada recognizes and pays tribute to this graphic artist so linked to the town. On this visit, together with the mayor, Carlos López, he celebrated the good rhythm of the works financed with an aid of 170,000 euros from the local PIREP program, managed by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.
The subdelegate said that the project will be an economic, social and cultural revulsive for both the city council and the entire region, being the first cultural center dedicated exclusively to the cartoonist. “His personality will be imprinted in this future museum center, a source of dynamization for the whole neighborhood and for people interested in his figure.”
The building will house not only the cultural center of Forges with cartoons, drawings, photographs, books and different material, but also the new Tourist Office, an assembly hall and different spaces for municipal uses.
The deputy delegate and the mayor checked the status of the actions in the presence of the municipal architect and the construction manager, who after the works of consolidation and reinforcement of the structure of the building, will continue with the provision of thermal insulation. The most important intervention will be carried out in the back of the building, where the historic courtyard will be recovered, with an active system of environmental control through the implementation of a patio greenhouse that allows the regulation of the entrance of light and ventilation.
Isabel Rodríguez congratulated the mayor “for presenting this project and obtaining the necessary funds to make it a reality, reflecting the admiration and recognition of the fonsgrinos to Forges”. For his part, he highlighted “the Government’s commitment to the revitalization of rural municipalities, betting on resources and services and also facing the demographic challenge”.
In the same way, Isabel Rodríguez pointed out the importance “of rehabilitating buildings like this, which housed the old town hall, and give them a second life”, also highlighting the emotional part of the project, “because the greatness of a town also lies in the recognition that returns its outstanding figures”.
