The deputy delegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, co-chaired the Xunta Local de Seguridad accompanied by the mayor of Sanxenxo, Telmo Marín. The meeting was also attended by the chief colonel of the Civil Guard in Pontevedra, Simón Venzal, the head of the Traffic subsector, Antonio Pérez Piteira; the provincial head of Traffic, Paula Yubero and the head of the Local Police, Luisa Fariña, among other authorities and police officers.
The subdelegate highlighted the good trend of crime statistics. Thus, in the first quarter of the year (January-April) the number of crimes was reduced by 7.5% with respect to the same period of 2023. The same trend has to do with the control of gender violence, since today there are 25 women in the “VioGén” system and none of them is qualified as being at extreme risk. This figure shows a steady decline since last year’s peak of 33.
Abel Losada thanked the good work of the Civil Guard and the Local Police, whose work “contributes decisively in obtaining these figures.” The Xunta Local de Seguridad took the agreement to intensify the presence of the Civil Guard, both in the control of citizen security and road traffic, during the months of July and August. In this regard, it was stated that Sanxenxo passes in the summer from a population of 20,000 to more than 100,000 people, “which is a challenge, and yet Sanxenxo remains a very safe town hall”. In addition, the Civil Guard will reinforce its presence during the multitudinous events of a sporting, cultural, festive or other nature that the City Council has scheduled for the summer.
The Xunta of Security also agreed to create a working group for the delimitation of the scope of action of the Civil Guard and the Local Police in which it has to do with traffic control. This agreement, identical to what is being promoted in other municipalities such as Pontevedra, Vigo, Ponteareas, Cambados or Cangas, will allow the proper marking of the urban center, the “village” and the crossings, thus improving the public service especially in that it has to do with the accesses to the beaches. The Local Police and the Traffic Headquarters will shape the agreement until it is signed. The deputy delegate stressed the importance of this agreement, “very necessary in a city council such as Sanxenxo, with multiple rural areas and numerous beaches where situations arise that must be monitored and, if necessary, punished.”
The subdelegate also informed the Local Xunta of the intention to promote as much as possible the Master Plan for Coexistence and Security in the Environment of Educational Centers, so that the Civil Guard carries out training activities aimed at preventing and combating crime in the school environment. This program provides teachers, parents and schoolchildren with a wide and varied program of talks. In Sanxenxo, 33 training sessions were held during the past year in which 1,696 students, 57 parents and 82 teachers participated. Losada demanded that the City Council take a step forward and invite the ANPAs of all the centers to participate in joint sessions for mothers and fathers, thus guaranteeing a sufficient number of attendees. In addition, he invited the Loal Police to join the Master Plan, according to the latest instruction of the Ministry of the Interior.
The subdelegate related the Master Plan, a program that was born in 2007 by the Ministries of Interior and Education, with the approval yesterday in the Council of Ministers of the preliminary draft of the Organic Law for the protection of minors in digital environments and stressed that all preventive efforts to ensure the safety of minors are few.
