The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, made an institutional visit to the city of Rianxo, where she took the opportunity to supervise, together with the mayor, Julián Bustelo, the progress of the rehabilitation works of the Pazo de Martelo, a historic building, declared Ben of Cultural Interest (BIC) that houses the municipal library and which is undergoing a rehabilitation process in which the Government invests 978,710 euros through the Program of Impulse and Rehabilitation of Public Buildings (PIREP), financed from the funds of the Recovery Plan.
María Rivas pointed out that this work, which is financed equally between the Government and the City Council and which is around two million euros, will allow, among other things, to improve accessibility to the property with the installation of an elevator; end the problems of leaks thanks to the replacement of the roof, recover the traditional façade, and modify the distribution of spaces to improve the services offered to citizens, expanding the reading area, the storage space and enabling research posts.
The subdelegate reported that the PIREP, through its two lines, the one directly executed by the Government and the one managed by the Xunta, left 30 million euros in aid in the province, more than 8 in the Barbanza region. “This money allowed us to recover historic properties, such as this Pazo de Martelo, but above all to improve and enable new spaces to improve the services that the administrations provide to the citizens,” he said.
In this line, María Rivas stressed the importance of the funds of the Recovery Plan reaching all municipalities, including the smallest ones, both to rehabilitate their heritage, to improve services or to take advantage of their tourist potential. “It’s about guaranteeing people living in coastal and rural municipalities a future where they have the same opportunities for their entire neighborhood,” he said.
The subdelegate participated in Rianxo in the regular meeting of the Local Security Xunta, in which a positive assessment of the security data of the city council was made and the collaboration and coordination between the State Security Forces and Bodies and the Local Police was highlighted.
In this regard, a subdelegate reported that, in view of the data of the year 2023, in general terms there is a 15% decrease in the number of crimes, going from 273 to 235, “it is important to emphasize that the rate of clarification is 52%, that is, that more than half are clarified”, the greatest decrease occurs in telematic scams.
The city of Rianxo has a crime rate 16 points below the provincial one. The data indicate that Rianxo had 21 crimes for every thousand inhabitants, being 37 for every thousand for the whole province. This rate is also below the Galician average (35) and well below the state average of 51 crimes per thousand inhabitants.
María Rivas, indicated that Rianxo is a safe city council, and expressed her satisfaction for the joint work that is reflected in the improvement of the data. In this regard, María Rivas stressed that “collaboration and constant investigation are key to the resolution and to improve police effectiveness, and the data of this city guarantee that good work”.
VioGen
Another important point of the Xunta Local Security meeting was the analysis of data relating to gender violence. The subdelegate reported that at the moment, in the province of A Coruña there are 2,243 victims in VioGen.
Rivas insisted on the need for all administrations to be fully involved in the fight against male violence and thanked Rianxo for its involvement in this fight, which is one of the 22 municipalities in the province with the local police being incorporated into the VioGen system for the protection of victims.
The subdelegate noted that the Government has a commitment to “each of the 2,243 victims: the commitment to work constantly to protect them and their families.” This task, he said, “is possible from the collaboration and coordination of the administrations.”
Thus, he recalled that in the province there are already 22 municipalities that formalized their incorporation to VioGen, and that another 8 municipalities are currently in the process of accession. He also stressed the importance of working through the Interinstitutional Coordination Tables, of which 39 currently operate.
Finally, the subdelegate cited the activities carried out under the State Pact against Gender Violence as another example of the collaboration between the different institutions in this matter, and for which the city of Rianxo received from 2018 a total of 54,219.34 euros within the framework of the State Pact: “They are training, awareness-raising and prevention actions that are carried out at the local level and that are very necessary to advance social awareness.”
