The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas participated in the III Congress on the health of girls and young women organized by the association A Ciencia es mujer that is held today in the National Museum of Science and Technology (MUNCYT).
In her speech, María Rivas, referred to the data of the report on “The situation of violence against women in adolescence” of the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, highlighting that both in the responses collected in terms of self-esteem and in those related to physical health, young women from all educational bands (ESO, Bachillerato and FP) the data are worse for them than for them; “something is happening with the physical and psychological health of girls, when it seems that they perceive themselves in a less healthy way than their peers.”
Thus, he indicated that it is necessary to talk about the health of girls and young women, understanding the social changes we are witnessing (new family structures; greater individualism and competitiveness; the Internet, artificial intelligence and social networks; the displacement of the population towards increasingly populated nuclei, migration), since they are clearly impacting their health.
The subdelegate expressed her concern about the impact of gender violence on girls and boys through the digital sphere, indicating that it uses new media but follows the same patterns as always, such as harassing, humiliating, controlling, coercing... in this area the vulnerabilities of girls and girls are increased, so we must also work in the digital sphere, artificial intelligence and cyberspace with a gender perspective, creating tools that avoid gender biases more than visionary in digital content, and favoring the protection of minors.
She wanted to mention the resources of care for children and adolescents, in the field of mental health through the Mental Health Strategy of the Ministry of Health, as well as prevention and awareness through tools such as the Master Plan of School Coexistence, which affects the formation of the educational community in relation to the use of substances, addictions, male violence, the management of social networks and all the violence that may be associated (bulling, sexting...).
With regard to physical health, Organic Law 8/21 on Comprehensive Care for Children and Adolescents against Violence in the Health Field indicated that the Government is working on the implementation of the protocol on care for the entire health sector.
She ended her speech by calling on the pioneers, the women who begin the exploration of new fields, to reclaim all those spaces that for decades were vetoed, in which women could not materialize our dreams.
“Justice and equality are clearly not given, they are conquered. They are not given as many things in life, there is no natural law that makes the world fair. That’s why we have to move, passivity will not end the gap of inequality between men and women,” he said.
