The deputy delegate of the Government, María Rivas, intervened this morning in the meeting of the Provincial Commission on Gender Violence convened by the Provincial High Court, and pointed out that 45.7% of the cases of gender violence active in the VioGén system in Galicia, are registered in the province of A Coruña.
The subdelegate of the government pointed out that there are 5,021 active cases in Galicia and 2,296 registered in the province. A total of 995 active cases are concentrated in the three large cities, which represents 43.3% and the remaining 1,301 are in the remaining 90 municipalities, accounting for 56.7% of the total.
When assessing the evolution of the data, María Rivas stressed that, as stated in the latest report of the Secretary of State for Security, “the increase in the number of cases must be related to the policies of awareness and to the reduction of social and personal tolerance against this type of delusion, which translates into a greater willingness of the victims to report and to put their cases in the hands of the State Security Forces.” To this must also be added the increase in resources and services that administrations make available to victims, helping to create safe spaces with resources to be able to deal with different situations.
María Rivas, said that the fight against gender violence is an absolute priority for the Government. Proof of this commitment is the constant promotion of policies to help prevent, raise awareness and protect victims. Thus, from 2021 our Autonomous Community was transferred 5,915,472.87 € of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan for the implementation of the Comprehensive Care Centers 24 h. the victims of sexual violence, 5 centers throughout Galicia two will be in the province of A Coruña, specifically in Santiago and Ferrol.
In the same sense, he pointed out that since 2018, 9,262,933.12 € of funds of the State Pact against Gender Violence were approached to the municipalities of Galicia of which 3,542,206.93 € were for the municipalities of the province of A Coruña.
Another group also reported that since March 2024, the renewal of the System of Follow-up by telematic means of compliance with the prohibitions of approach imposed in the field of gender violence and sexual violence (COMETA) was activated, a protection system highly valued in this commission, and whose mission is to give better response and protection to victims 24 hours a day.
The subdelegate of the Government highlighted the importance of coordination and collaboration between administrations, justice and the Security Forces and Corps to continue working in the fight against male violence. “It is a duty as public administrations that we are but it is also a daily moral commitment with each and every one of the 2,296 victims within the VioGen system that we have today in the province and with their families.”
