Pontevedra, May 6, 2024.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, today presented the “cyberexpert” cards to the 16 students of the sixth grade of primary school of the CEIP of Ponte Sampaio de Pontevedra who overcame the training actions on cybersecurity framed in the Master Plan for Coexistence in Educational Centers, which at the provincial level is developed by both the National Police and the Civil Guard and in which 34,500 students participated last year.
Accompanied by the provincial commissioner, Juan José Díaz; and by the director of the educational center, Avelino Cabaleiro, the subdelegate congratulated the students for completing this course, stressing the importance of knowing not only the advantages, but also the risks involved in the use of technologies. In this regard, she encouraged the boys and girls to transmit the acquired knowledge to the rest of the students of the school, as well as to their family environment, to help parents, grandparents and grandmothers in the use of new technologies.
In the course of the event, the Government’s deputy delegate stressed the importance of raising awareness among minors about their own safety on the Internet and stressed the need to provide them with the necessary training and tools to surf the Internet in a responsible manner. In this line, he praised the educational work carried out by the National Police Force through the Delegation of Citizen Participation to train students in the face of the risks that social networks and new ICT can entail.
Finally, Abel Losada highlighted the success of the Master Plan for coexistence in schools, the project that welcomes the initiative of the “cyberexperts”. He recalled that based on cooperation between administrations, security forces and the educational community, this plan grew by 80% in the last year in the province of Pontevedra, reaching 34,500 students. “Behind this success there is a political commitment on the part of the government and a human effort on the part of the security forces that I want to recognize again,” he said, while committing to “continue working to promote culture and security among the school population.”
