The Subdelegation of the Government in A Coruña reports that next Friday, May 3, the port of A Coruña will be the scene of MARSEC-24, an exercise in maritime security that is organized annually by the Navy and that serves to strengthen collaboration between different agencies and agencies in the maritime, civil and military field with the objective of safeguarding common interests in the different Spanish maritime spaces.
In particular, the exercise, led by the National Police, will begin in the early morning and will take place throughout the morning and will involve the Port Authority of A Coruña, the Society of Rescue and Maritime Safety (Sasemar), the Navy, Maritime Captaincy, the National Police attached to Galicia, the Local Police and the Firefighters of A Coruña and the emergency services of 112 and 061.
In it, a terrorist incident will be simulated on board a passenger ship, which will involve the mobilization of troops on land, sea and air from the first hour of the day in various scenarios of the bay and the port.
The ultimate objective is to foster collaboration and mutual knowledge between the different institutions, agencies and agencies involved in the action of the State at sea to improve coordination in the resolution of maritime safety incidents that may occur in Spanish maritime spaces.
Preparatory meeting
The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided this week, together with the superior head of the National Police in Galicia, Ramón Gómez Nieto, a preparatory meeting of the exercise in which the last details of the exercise were specified to ensure its correct execution.
During the meeting, the subdelegate stressed the need to warn the population to avoid unnecessary alarm situations caused by the exercise, which, as she explained, “is precisely the opposite, to ensure a correct response to any incident and to demonstrate the excellent preparation and coordination of our security forces and bodies.”
