The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas and the mayor of Narón, Marian Ferreiro Díaz, signed this morning the protocol of accession to the VioGén system of protection of women victims of gender violence. With the incorporation of Narón, there are already 22 concellos of the province of A Coruña that are within the VioGen system.
The subdelegate recalled the importance of the concellos being part of this system of surveillance and protection of the victims, because “you are the administration that is closest to the neighbors and neighbors, and it is therefore the people who make up the local police of each concello who have a greater knowledge of the local reality, which is undoubtedly information of great importance to act in the protection of the victims.”
After signing the protocol, a subdelegate said that “VioGen is a good tool to work in a coordinated way, and above all very useful to continue moving forward in the protection of victims of male violence, which is what we all seek.” In this sense, he recalled that “the fight against gender violence is a task of society as a whole, but in which all institutions must be fully involved”, and that is why from the subdelegation of the Government “we will continue working with the clear objective of adding more and more municipalities to the system of protection of victims”.
María Rivas called for those concellos who have local police and who have not yet joined VioGen to be encouraged. Currently, there are 58 concellos of the province that have these troops so, to this day, 38% of the concellos would be inside VioGen.
The VioGen system allows the Local Police to have permanent information on active cases within its scope of action. In this way, the local police officers, after making the corresponding coordination board with the rest of the State Security Forces and Corps, assume tasks of follow-up and control of some of the active cases, generally those that are considered to be of low or unappreciated risk level.
The deputy delegate of the Government recalled that today we have 2,275 active cases in the province of A Coruña. Therefore, VioGen has as a priority to attend to and protect 2,198 victims of gender violence, “2,198 women with their corresponding families who need some kind of protection to develop, with some security, their lives. There are 2,198 very powerful reasons that compel us to continue working to give security to protection, and that force us to continue working to achieve the eradication of male violence.”
The deputy delegate wanted to convey to the mayor, Marian Ferreiro, her gratitude for promoting this adhesion, and “for the commitment that with a link you acquire in the development of policies of equality and of fight against wool violence of male chauvinism, as evidenced in the measures adopted and that will culminate in the incorporation of the Local Police to the VioGen system”. In addition, María Rivas recalled that since 2018 Narón received a total of 78,838.68 euros through the funds of the State Pact for prevention and awareness activities in this matter.
The subdelegate wanted to recall that on January 22, the Concello de Narón launched the Local Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence, in which agents from different fields (police, health, education, social services or justice) were incorporated to make their contributions to the fight for equality and against male violence. In this way Narón already has these two instruments to continue fighting against male violence
