The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, and the mayor of Boiro, José Ramón Romero, presided this morning the Local Security Board of the Concello de Boiro, a meeting that served to analyze the different indicators related to citizen security and culminate with the procedures of accession to the VioGen protocol, of attention to the protection of victims of gender violence.
The subdelegate reported that the Concello de Boiro carries out various activities within the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence, such as awareness and prevention actions, informative campaigns and other activities aimed at eradicating male violence, for which it received a total of 41,779.87 euros since 2018.
At the meeting, María Rivas reviewed the data provided by the VioGen victim protection system in the province of A Coruña, indicating that currently the police systems incorporated into VioGen have 2,276 active cases of gender violence registered.
María Rivas pointed out the need to “continue making a joint effort of all the Administrations to eradicate gender violence, so the importance of local entities joining the VioGen protocol, since they are the ones that have the resources, those that are closest to the neighborhood and that, thanks to that proximity, can collaborate in monitoring, accompaniment and prevention in a very effective way.”
The subdelegate said that “the figures are more than a statistic; they have names and surnames and they call us to continue working tirelessly for each of them.” They are a permanent reminder that “efforts must focus on the collaboration and coordination of the institutions involved in their protection, since we must guarantee the protection of all women who suffer or suffered some type of gender violence, as well as their families, especially when there are minors, given their situation of vulnerability,” he added.
For these reasons, the subdelegate congratulated the Concello de Boiro for the incorporation of the VioGén System Local Police, since “their contribution will be fundamental to achieve a fair society and free of male violence.”
The deputy delegate of the Government recalled the importance of the municipalities of the province with Local Police joining the VioGén system, as today the Boiro does and as they already did in the province of A Coruña 21 concellos, to which must be added 5 others that are in the process of inclusion. He also reported that there are 41 municipalities in the province that have Interinstitutional Coordination Tables.
At the meeting, María Rivas and the mayor reviewed the main indicators provided by the Civil Guard and which refer to citizen security and police effectiveness in the council. The subdelegate of the Government stressed that the crime rate of the municipality is almost nine points below the national average, at 42.5 points.
It also highlights that in the year 2023 there was a 6.38% reduction in the total number of prison offences with respect to the previous year, maintaining the rate of clarification around 40%.
In this same vein, María Rivas and the mayor of Boiro highlighted the high level of coordination between the Civil Guard and the Local Police, indicating both dosus that this coordination is a fundamental tool that is allowing progress in the security of the concello.
