The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, received this morning four radio fans and volunteers from the National Emergency Radio Network (REMER) in the provincial territory to give them a diploma in recognition of their long activity and their selfless collaboration with this Civil Protection network.
During the meeting, the subdelegate highlighted the value “of altruistic and generous dedication to public service” of the four award-winning people, as well as the importance of the work of all the members of a network in the double sense, “of people, and security”.
No act of today was recognized the dedication and selfless work of Mónica Caldas, member of the network for 10 years; #Luís Rojizo, in the network for 15 years; Eliseo García, in the network since there are 30; and #Luís Losada, who has been part of the network for 40 years.
The subdelegate stressed that the distinctions granted “are not a simple accreditation of the years of dedication, but a diploma that accredits that there are people who dedicate part of their lives, their efforts and their time to others.” Losada took advantage of the event to thank the 53 people who make up the network in the province for the service provided altruistically. “Society should always have a plan B because things that shouldn’t fail end up failing. I wish there had been no need for a Civil Protection system, but it is a great peace of mind to know that there are people who, without any financial reward, work for the benefit of the community and are there.” And he stressed the importance of the network to this day. “The Internet has already shown that it is not foolproof. And when it is missing, there are the radio-affection and radio-affection, so that things go well, even when they go wrong.”
The deputy delegate was accompanied during the presentation of diplomas to the head of the Civil Protection Unit in Pontevedra, Natalia de el Caño, the coordinators of the REMER in the province, Ismael Rodríguez, Juan Jesús Tarácido and Hortensia Rodríguez, and the zone heads, Marcelino Vázquez and Leopoldo Chousal.
A national network to deal with communications in emergencies
The objective of the Emergency Radio Network (REMER), belonging to the Ministry of the Interior, is to bring Civil Protection closer to a communications network that ensures transmissions in the event of accidents, emergencies or catastrophes. Especially when telecommunications are not available or there is no coverage.
The network is made up of radio fans who voluntarily integrate into the structure to collaborate in emergency situations. Currently, close to 4,000 employees are part of REMER, of which more than half a hundred operate from Pontevedra providing a service in an altruistic way.
