The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today appealed for collaboration between the government, companies and citizens in the process that is under way to achieve zero emissions transport and, at the same time, guarantee the right of users and the economic sector to access safe, sustainable and healthy mobility. Pedro Blanco explained how the Government of Pedro Sánchez is taking steps so that Spain fulfills the commitments of decarbonization of transport and that in this process, “as we did with the other transformations of the legislature, we work in the line of not leaving anyone behind”.
“New mobility must be clean, safe and digital, but it must also be a right”, he insisted, to which he added that the Government has the tools to achieve it, such as the Sustainable Transport Strategy, the Sustainable Mobility Law and the European funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The government delegate made this reflection during the inauguration of the day Sustainable mobility: the electrification of transport, organized in Santiago by the Confederation of Galician Entrepreneurs (CEG) with the sponsorship of Iberdrola. In his speech, he thanked the president of the CEG, Juan Manuel Vieites, for organizing this day around the electrification of transport, “a strategic sector that will continue to be fundamental in the new green and digital economy.” And he remarked to the companies present at the conference that “they have in the Government of Pedro Sánchez the best ally for this process, in which synergies and collaboration are fundamental to speed up and reinforce the change to the new mobility”.
Electric Vehicle
Pedro Blanco pointed out the electrification of transport as a key element in this decarbonization process and explained how the Government supports this process with two strategies. On the one hand, support for research and development of new technologies associated with electric cars, through the Electric and Connected Vehicle (VEC) PERTE. In this area, the delegate highlighted the role of Galicia in the development of this technology and recalled that Galician companies participate in projects financed with more than 55 million euros of the first two calls of this PERTE.
On the second strategy, the delegate explained that the Government works to promote access to the electric vehicle and give confidence to users, private individuals and professionals: “It is key that citizens and companies recognize and appreciate the advantages associated with electric transport and have incentives to take the step towards buying one of these vehicles,” he said.
In this strategy, the delegate highlighted the MOVES programs (Moves II and III and Moves Fletas) to advance this process and that in Galicia the Government promoted with more than 50 million euros the purchase of electric vehicles and the extension of charging points, “already benefiting about 5,000 Galicians and Galicians”.
Related to this area, today will dedicate a specific space to the electric vehicle, in which the Government Commissioner for the Electric and Connected Vehicle (VEC), José María López, will participate.
