The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, received this morning fifteen radio-trained and volunteer people from the National Emergency Radio Network (REMER) in the provincial territory to give them a diploma in recognition of their selfless collaboration with this Civil Protection network.
During the meeting, the subdelegate, who has the ‘DELTA 01’ indicator among the radioworkers, put in value “an altruistic and generous dedication to public service” of the award winners, as well as the importance of the work of all the members of a network in the double sense, “of people, and of security”.
Today’s event recognized the dedication and selfless work of 15 volunteers: 2 members of the network since there are more than 4 years; 5 with more than 10 years; 3 who are part of the network since there are more than 30, and 5 who exceed 35 years of service.
The subdelegate stressed that the distinctions granted “are not a simple accreditation of the years of dedication, but a diploma that accredits that there are people who dedicate part of their lives, their efforts and their time to others.” Rivas took advantage of the event to thank the 112 people who make up the network in the province for the service provided altruistically. “Society should always have a plan B because things that shouldn’t fail end up failing. I wish there had been no need for a Civil Protection system, but it is a great peace of mind to know that there are people who, without any financial reward, work for the benefit of the community and are there.” And he stressed the importance of the network to this day.
“The Internet has already shown that it is not foolproof. And when it is missing, there are the radio-affection and radio-affection, so that things go well, even when they go wrong.”
They accompanied the deputy delegate during the presentation of diplomas to head of the Civil Protection Unit in A Coruña, María Dolores Gómez; the deputy secretary general of the Government Delegation, Eva Vázquez, and the coordinator of the REMER in the province, Jesús Varela.
A national network for emergency communications
The objective of the Emergency Radio Network (REMER), belonging to the Ministry of the Interior, is to bring Civil Protection closer to a communications network that ensures transmissions in the event of accidents, emergencies or catastrophes. Especially when telecommunications are not available or there is no coverage.
The network is made up of radio-trained people who voluntarily integrate into the structure to collaborate in emergency situations. Currently, close to 4,000 employees are part of REMER, of which more than a hundred operate from A Coruña in an altruistic way.
