The Subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presented this morning at the office of the Public Employment Service (SEPE) of As Pontes the new 15 ‘Violeta Points’ with which all the offices of the public agency in the province and more the Provincial Directorate will have access. These are safe places for women victims of any type of male assault, where they can receive information and accompaniment if they need it.
“This action is part of the objective of building a more just and egalitarian society and responds to the firm and unequivocal commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to eradicate male violence in any of its forms,” said the subdelegate, who valued the positive impact that this type of action represents in helping women suffering from gender violence.
María Rivas considered the Violeta Points as an “essential instrument” in the fight against this scourge, but indicated that, although it is accompanied by the transversal policies that the Government of Spain is applying, “it will be insufficient without the awareness and involvement of the whole society”. “We have to defend the rights we enjoy every day because we are seeing the regression that occurs where the far-right governs,” he said.
The subdelegate stressed that currently 2,193 women in the province of A Coruña are in the system of protection and follow-up against gender violence of the Ministry of the Interior of a total of 4,774 cases opened in Galicia. “Violeta Points are a safe space in which anyone can receive qualified information to know how to act in case of being a victim or have information about any possible case of violence against women,” said Rivas.
In the province of A Coruña, each of the 15 SEPE offices in addition to the Provincial Directorate will have a violet badge and a QR code that is linked to a guide, available in 10 languages, with information on how to act in a case of male violence, what it is, the different types that exist, how to detect it, and that provides resources to the victims themselves. Office staff will also be trained to know how to deal with these cases and to be able to help women upon request.
In the presentation of these points, the deputy delegate was accompanied by the head of the Unit against violence against women of A Coruña, Manuela Vilaboy; by Estefanía Pita, provincial director of the SEPE in A Coruña; Montserrat Arza, director of the office of the Pontes; María Isabel Rubianes, provincial deputy director of benefits, and by the councilors of the Pontes Ana María Pena (Employment and Citizen Care) and Tania Pardo (Social Welfare and Equality).
The Violeta Point is part of the catalogue of urgent measures of the Improvement and Modernization Plan promoted by different government ministries and represents a change of focus in public policies to care for victims, placing male violence as a structural problem that requires the involvement of the whole of society to put an end to it. In this sense, this instrument aims to bring comprehensive services closer to victims through their environment and provide information on how to act in a case of male violence to establishments, entities, companies, public agencies.
