The deputy delegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, presided together with the mayor of A Guarda, Roberto José Álvarez Carrero, the Xunta Local de Seguridad, the first one in which he participates in this municipality to take office last December. The meeting especially valued the continuous improvement in crime statistics in this city, where there was a 14% decrease in crime in 2023 with respect to the previous year, thus placing the city of A Guarda in very high security standards. Losada stressed that the figures are even better than those of 2019 in the last year before the pandemic. In this way, he indicated that “such a significant decrease places this town hall well below the average crime figures of the province as a whole”.
At the meeting, in which the Colonel of the Civil Guard, Simón Venzal and others responsible for the security of the Benemérita, the City Council and the Local Police also participated, he realized that there are already two consecutive years in which the number of prison violations registered in this City Council is reduced. Of particular note are the reductions in crimes against people and against freedom. There was, in fact, no crime against sexual freedom.
As for the crimes against the heritage, the robberies remained stable and there is a substantial decrease in the robberies. In view of these figures, which show the safety of citizens in the Guard, there was also a 16% decrease in the number of people arrested and/or investigated by the Civil Guard.
The Xunta de Seguridad highlighted the importance of collaboration between the State Security Forces and Bodies and the Local Police in all areas to fight crime and also in traffic and road safety.
