Ourense, March 13, 2024.- The Deputy Delegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, traveled this morning to the City Council of Vilamartín de Valdeorras. There he held a meeting with the mayor, Enrique Álvarez, and the neighbors of Baxeles to analyze and supervise the state projects in this municipality, show the maximum interinstitutional collaboration and attend to the demands of the mayor and the municipal corporation of the City Council.
He announced that Ourense is the third province with the lowest number of pending permits in Spain related to the SINGLE Plan where the resolution period is less than 120 days. This reflects the continuous help and collaboration between the Subdelegation of the Government of Ourense and the Provincial Head of Telecommunications Inspection of Ourense, Enrique San Martín.
This programme is a key instrument for bridging the geographical digital divide and addressing the demographic challenge of building a more inclusive society.
It is of vital importance in the province of Ourense due to the large number of rural areas existing throughout the province that over the years have been affected by the continuous migration to urban centers.
"Territorially the province of Ourense is very dispersed in terms of population centers and we are making an important effort to solve the problems. The Government’s objective is that the rural environment has the same communication and that it can have more populated areas. Therefore, in the demographic challenge we are trying in some way to break that digital and communicational gap and that is what we will do here to promote a suitable solution for our neighbors as soon as possible,” said Emilio González.
Achieving a broadband coverage of 100 Mbps for 100% of the population by 2025 is one of the objectives in the field of digital connectivity, the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and the Digital Spain Agenda. "There is a goal to reach all rural areas of Spain and the province."
During the meeting with the mayor, Enrique Álvarez, and the neighbors of Baxeles, the deputy delegate made it clear that “we are here to receive and listen to the demands of the neighbors of Baxeles. To specify and evaluate the resolution possibilities that may exist in terms of telephone and broadband communication. So we will try to find a solution to this problem that they are asking us for”. And he pledged to study and take the necessary steps to advance all current projects in the council; “The State Government will always be there committed.”
In addition, the subdelegate of the Government, together with the provincial head of the Telecommunications Inspection of Ourense, Enrique San Martín, informed the residents of Baxeles of the Single Plan of Rural Demand as an alternative measure that the Government grants to particular cases such as this one of special difficulty and the commitment of the government to install Fibre Optics before the end of 2024.
Emilio González put Vilamartín de Valdeorras as an example of the government’s commitment to small municipalities, "which are called to be protagonists of the transformation of Spain towards a green, digital, sustainable and cohesive country, to achieve the objectives of the demographic challenge."
Along these lines, he has reviewed with the mayor other projects in the town, such as the works of rehabilitation and improvement of energy efficiency, that are carried out through the DUS5000 program, financed with the funds of the Recovery Plan and designed precisely so that the smaller municipalities can face improvements that result in the neighborhood and that otherwise would not be in a position to execute.
