The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, participated in the day around March 8, International Women's Day, organized within the framework of the Master Plan of the Civil Guard for coexistence and improvement of security in educational centers and their environment. The proposed activity was the dissemination of the work done by women within the bodies of the Civil Guard and the National Police, thanks to the collaboration between this plan and the Citizen Participation Unit. The subdelegate acknowledged that this type of talks about women are important because they help to give visibility to a growing reality and reduce the stigma that these professions are only masculine.
The subdelegate stressed that all the work that these agents are doing and developing serves “to make known women referents who develop their professional lives in sectors in which they traditionally had no presence, showing a future option for girls far from sexist stereotypes.”
“This can be a good opportunity to listen to their daily lives and how they act and work in the protection and defense of citizens, a work that is often invisible and even undervalued,” said the deputy delegate.
The speakers were Ana Isabel Caleya, Sergeant of Citizen Security of Baraja; Sonia Yolanda Santiso, of the Technological Research Team of the UOPJ; Mª José Andia, of the Intervention Team of Arms and Explosives of Vilalba; and Jessica Veiga, of attested Traffic Subsector in Lugo.
During the day, about 200 students from 4th ESO and 1st Baccalaureate plus the teaching staff of the IES Santiago Basanta Silva de Vilalba, were able to take a look at the different specialties, formations and tasks that these police and Civil Guard agents carry out in their positions and know a little more about their functions.
More training for students
