The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, inaugurated this morning in the auditorium of the Tax Agency the training day on the legal framework applicable to foreign women victims of gender violence. This initiative is part of the programme of events organized by the Subdelegation’s Unit against Violence against Women on the occasion of 8 March, International Women’s Day.
Isabel Rodríguez began her speech by stating that “equality is inherent to democracy,” and mentioned the motto chosen for this year by the United Nations: Investing in women: accelerating progress. “The government’s commitment is firm, we know that it is one of the greatest challenges of today and that discrimination and violence against women is a structural and systemic phenomenon, so it is essential to recognize the multiple ways in which it manifests itself and how it intertwines with other inequalities in an intersectional way.”
The subdelegate stressed that “in an increasingly globalized world, where migratory flows are increasing greatly, administrations must have the capacity to respond to this fluid situation.”
Thus, Rodríguez stressed that the Government of Spain allocated to Galicia about 70 million euros to finance actions to prevent and combat male violence, “multiplying almost by three the resources available for the last four years.” In addition, he stressed that in the last year, the municipalities of Lugo “received more than 223,000 euros for this type of actions.”
In this regard, the Government’s deputy delegate stressed that “the way to reduce the numbers of victims of gender violence is to increase the economic figures for the provision of resources, to expand and improve the protection network and, above all, to work on the prevention and eradication of this violence.”
