The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña participated today in the 49th Edition of the Festa do Queixo, and in which she was in charge of presenting one of the “Arzuán del Año” awards to the cooperative, journalist and activist for gender equality, Paula Fernández. The comic Xan Veiga was also worthy of this recognition.
In her speech, the subdelegate stressed that the Festa do Queixo is “like a good alliance, combining tradition and modernity, culture and economy, identity and equality.”
The subdelegate stressed that Arzúa and her work is an example to follow. “Because it became an emblem of the work well done, for its quality and respect for traditions, without forgetting the need to innovate, as evidenced by the numerous recognitions and awards obtained by your queixerías.”
María Rivas, also wanted to highlight that this year the Festa do Queixo Arzúa makes a “commitment to quality culture, to female and Galician culture, but it is at the same time a commitment to value the role of women in today’s society, to help avoid the invisibility that women often suffer”.
In this regard, she was pleased to have the opportunity to present the recognition of “Arzuana of the Year”, the woman who through her work contributes to addressing and making visible the challenges faced by women and girls affected by conflict and climate change in Ethiopia, which is where Paula Fernández currently resides, but which continues to be a new contribution in her activism in favor of gender equality.
The deputy delegate did not want to miss the opportunity to also congratulate the speaker of this edition, María Vázquez, who “with her exceptional interpretation in Matria, reminded them in her role as Ramona the lack of job opportunities and the tile imposed by that patriarchal society, achieving a memorable female portrait that claims the freedom and denies of women as an inevitable losing figure.”
The deputy delegate thanked both the mayor, Xoán Xesús Carriles and the councilor for Tourism, Begoña Balado for having invited her one more year “to queixear”. María Rivas also wanted to highlight the economic importance of this activity for what it means both from a tourist and gastronomic point of view; as well as congratulate the organization for the extraordinary poster of cultural activities.
The deputy delegate took advantage of her visit to Arzúa to visit the 62 posts with 53 queixerías that this year attended the Festa do Queixo, and congratulated the Regulatory Council for its work for also putting the tilde in this edition in the visibility of the figure of women.
