The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided together with the mayor of the municipality, Xoán Xesús Carriles, the Local Security Board in Arzúa, in which they reviewed the current security plan for the celebration of the Festa do Queixo on March 1, 2 and 3, to ensure the correct coordination of the Security Forces and Bodies and ensure a good development of the celebration for all and all attendees.
In this regard, the subdelegate showed the full collaboration of the Government’s subdelegation, since, during the 3 days in which the celebration takes place, the presence of the Civil Guard will be strengthened, which will have a greater number of troops, with a greater presence in the streets and in the scheduled events, and which will be available 24 hours a day. The subdelegate noted that "the Cheese Festival is a benchmark in terms of the security measures it adopts to ensure the success of the call."
At the meeting, they also addressed issues related to the situation of citizen security. María Rivas expressed her satisfaction with the good work done by the Security Forces and Corps over the last year in Arzúa, which is reflected in the decrease in prison infractions, which decreased by 5.93%, and which is also reflected in the improvement in 8 points in terms of the level of clarifications with respect to 2022. “Preventive work and follow-up, as well as constant and continuous action are key to the resolution and to improve police effectiveness,” said Rivas.
The data related to the crimes of fraud also showed a great improvement compared to the previous year, since the level of clarification increased by 2.65% points and 42.22% fewer crimes of this type were recorded than the previous year.
Regarding the crime rate, María Rivas stressed that in the city of Arzúa it is more than 30 points below the index in Spain, which is 49%, and almost 17 below that of Galicia, which is 35.3. It is also well below the provincial rate, which reaches 38.2%. Specifically, the crime rate in Arzúa stands at 18.81%.
In this same vein, the deputy delegate pointed out that these good results reflect “great work and great effectiveness on the part of the entire staff of agents” and that they demonstrate that “Arzúa is a safe city council”. For this reason, the deputy delegate and the mayor agreed to continue promoting coordination between the Security Forces and Corps to enhance citizen security.
Viogen
María Rivas and the mayor of Arzúa analyzed the data provided by the VioGén victim protection system in the province of A Coruña, which recorded 2,192 active cases of gender violence. “All administrations and institutions must work hand in hand to make available to the victims all the necessary resources to help them get out of this situation and guarantee the right to a life without fear, to them and their families,” said Rivas.
The deputy delegate stressed that Arzúa is one of the 39 municipalities that has an Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence and, in this regard, took the opportunity to inform the mayor about all the possibilities offered by the VioGén victim protection system and encouraged the municipalities of the province with Local Police to join, as already they did in the province of A Coruña 22 municipalities, plus 7 that are in the process of inclusion.
The subdelegate recalled that the City of Arzúa received from 2018 the amount of 16.958.34€ in the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence for the development of activities for prevention and awareness in this matter.
Master Plan for Coexistence in Educational Centers
María Rivas shared the data on the incidence of the Ministry of the Interior’s Master Plan for School Coexistence last year 2023, in which the 3 educational centers of Arzúa participated and 618 people attended among students, teachers and families.
The Master Plan for School Coexistence carried out 16 activities in the city centers, of which 6 served to address issues related to bullying, 3 with the use of new technologies, 3 that focused on gender violence and equality and 2 with the consumption of substances such as drugs and alcohol.
