The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña participated this morning in the inauguration of the II Strategic Conference of Arteixo, together with the mayor of the town, Carlos Calvelo. This conference, which had more than 200 attendees, also convened the business, associative world as well as the representatives of the university, and the surrounding municipalities.
During her speech, María Rivas, wanted to highlight the importance of the implementation of urban agendas with the objective of “advancing sustainable growth, which involves making job creation and economic development compatible with the protection of the environment and the improvement of the quality of life of neighbors and neighbors”.
The subdelegate recalled the Government’s clear commitment to development that must be “equitable, fair and sustainable”, as reflected in the Spanish Urban Agenda and which is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Rivas stressed that “equity, justice and sustainability are the three pillars that guide the government’s action and that mark the direction of the national strategy”, and that they must lead us to “achieve sustainability in urban development policies”.
During his speech, he said that municipalities are the main protagonists and that they are also “key to promote transformation, and essential to promote the successful implementation of urban agendas”.
The deputy delegate of the Government expressed the commitment of the State with the municipalities that decisively bet on implementing their urban agendas, supporting and complementing the development of the agenda itself with other actions. In the case of Arteixo with more than 2.2 million euros invested in recent years in actions such as:
• the establishment of low-emission zones (€702,000)
• the digitisation of local administration (226,662 €)
• the implementation of broadband (€110,148)
• The program to promote the rehabilitation of public buildings (199.879 €)
• the recovery of the ecosystems of the Bolaños and Bidueiro rivers (907.415 € - through the Biodiversity Foundation)
But also with other actions such as aid for retail trade (53,724€), or promoting equality and coexistence through the funds of the State Pact against Gender Violence (118,609€ since 2018)
The subdelegate insisted on the “extraordinary innovative and entrepreneurial capacity, which exists and on the potentialities that Arteixo has”, indicating that the Government will continue to bet on “being part of a future that presents itself with many possibilities for this municipality”.
In this sense, he appealed for collaboration, and loyal cooperation to walk towards a better society, “a society in which equality, justice and sustainability are the signs of identity.”
