The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, today highlighted the importance of coordination between the Security Forces and Corps to advance the security of the city of Ribeira. Together with the mayor of the municipality, Luís Pérez, the subdelegate chaired the Local Security Xunta in Ribeira and thus agreed to continue promoting coordination between the National Police and the Local Police to enhance citizen security.
In this regard, a subdelegate indicated that in the year 2023 a great effort was made in terms of coordination between the National Police and the Local Police, emphasizing that: 52 coordination meetings, 78 joint interventions, 21 joint humanitarian aid, 30 joint preventive controls and 16 collaborative arrests.
María Rivas expressed her satisfaction with the work carried out by the Security Forces and Corps over the last year, which has reflected the improvement of clarifications in the case of prison violations, reaching half of the crimes committed, and which shows an efficiency index of 42%; which allowed the improvement of the results of the previous year. In this regard, María Rivas stressed that “prevention, monitoring and constant investigation are key to the resolution and to improve police effectiveness.”
The objective now is to continue, through collaboration and cooperation, in the improvement of the indicators analyzed. Both the deputy delegate of the Government and the mayor seek to continue improving citizen security and give a better response to the neighborhood of Ribeira, for which they agreed to continue on the path of cooperation between administrations.
At the Xunta Local Security Office, it was agreed to explore the possibility of strengthening foot patrols in commercial areas.
Viogen
At the meeting María Rivas and the mayor of Ribeira also analyzed the data on gender violence in the province of A Coruña provided by the VioGén victim protection system. Currently in the province there are 2,194 active cases and gender violence that are within the VioGén police system, in this sense a subdelegate pointed out that “each of the 2,194 registered cases, constitute a reason to continue working to protect women and their families, the fight against gender violence must be a shared objective and constant work.”
For this reason, María Rivas stressed that collaboration and coordination on the part of all institutions involved in the protection of victims of gender violence is indispensable.
In addition, María Rivas reiterated her call for all municipalities in the province that have Local Police to join the VioGén system to “achieve a more just society and free of male violence”, as 24 municipalities adhered to VioGén and 39 municipalities with Interinstitutional Coordination Tables have already done.
In this regard, the Deputy Delegate of the Government congratulated the mayor on the agreement adopted by the corporation to soon join this system of protection of victims of male violence.
Ribeira City Council received 13,347.01 euros in the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence for the development of activities for prevention and awareness in this field.
