The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, met today in Betanzos with the mayor María Barral to evaluate the collaboration between the government and the Concello in the field of tourism, which translates into different projects of urban renewal, architectural restoration and modernization of the local tourism fabric. With the mayor she toured the Supply Market, which is being renovated with the collaboration of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility in order to combine traditional uses with tourist ones.
In Betanzos, the government delegate made a balance sheet of Fitur, in which he highlighted the potential of the proposals presented by tourist destinations in Galicia in which the Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destination are developed, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. One of these proposals was that of the Concello de Betanzos, which the delegate expressly supported and which this year focuses on the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Franca Medieval Fair.
Digitization Aids
In Betanzos, the delegate encouraged concellos and the tourism sector of Galicia to take advantage of the new lines of aid from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism aimed at the digitalization of the tourism sector and mobilizing between the two 200 million euros.
The first of these calls is intended for local entities for the digitalization of tourist destinations. It will have 96 million euros, of which 38 are reserved for deputies and 58 million, for concellos and communities. The delegate detailed that this call will be opened soon and that potential beneficiaries can already know the bases and conditions that had governed the granting of this aid, since they were published in the BOE last December.
The aid is aimed at local public bodies deploying “smart platforms that contribute to the digital transformation of destinations and the tourism sector,” he said. Digital platforms and solutions will allow all agents to relate to the tourist in a digital and intelligent way and improve the management of the destination, also attending to the need to improve the relationship between tourists and residents. Pedro Blanco stressed that “the grant can cover up to 100% of the total cost with a maximum of 6 million euros”.
Together with this call for local administrations, the delegate reported on a second line of aid for companies in the tourism sector, which in this case is already open and has a deadline until March 13. “This line makes available to the sector 104 million euros that are aimed at the development and implementation of unique and transformative technological projects in these companies.” The delegate stressed that the aid ranges from 20,000 to 3 million euros and said that in this call “SMEs and non-profit associations and confederations of the tourism sector” will be able to participate.
