The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided today in Ferrol the institutional act of raising the flag on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the National Police, in which was also present the superior head of the Commissariat of Ferrol-Narón, Javier Mª de Loresecha Roldán, the mayor of Ferrol and the mayor of Narón, as well as other civil and military authorities.
In the course of the event, the subdelegate congratulated the approximately 3,400 women and men who make up the National Police in Galicia and represent the highest number of troops in the last decade.
He also acknowledged the work carried out in these 200 years of history, becoming a reference operator in the field of public security. “Two centuries for which today I want to congratulate all the people who make up the National Police and who are depositaries of that centuries-old tradition that collect, adapt and project the future in their daily work,” he said.
In this regard, María Rivas recalled that the National Police, “always maintained the same objective: to safeguard and ensure the safety of people”, and to “be custodians of the values that govern our society, defenders of the rights acquired in recent years and guarantees of the welfare of citizens”.
The deputy delegate pointed out to the agents as protagonists of the celebration of the Bicentenary, “because you are a pillar of our Rule of Law, of our democracy. Without your presence, Spain and Galicia would not have reached this level of development and well-being that we enjoy”.
María Rivas pointed out that Galicia is today the third safest community in Spain and is among the safest places in Europe. “The criminal acts fell again last year in Galicia, and it has been three years with this trend, and the best crime clarification rate of the last nine years was achieved.” However, he encouraged maintaining and improving these figures, “a responsibility that the government also shares.”
At the event there was also a moment to remember all the men and women policemen who lost their lives in the performance of their work.
Finally, the subdelegate wanted to convey her pride for each of the women and men who make up the National Police in Galicia, and to convey “my most sincere congratulations on this day”.
