The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided today the official act of taking possession of the new head of the Local Commissariat of Santiago de Compostela, Commissioner Felipe Guzmán, to whom he transferred the relevance of the Santiaguesa Commissariat for the maintenance of the citizen security of Santiago, “open city and administrative, tourist and university capital of Galicia”.
In her speech, the subdelegate congratulated the Commissioner for the good results of the police devices that guaranteed the security of the summits and meetings of the Spanish Presidency of the EU that took place in Santiago. It should be remembered that since June the current commissioner was in charge of services, so he was responsible for the participation of the agents of the local police station in these devices. Among these meetings, the subdelegate highlighted last September’s ECOFIN: “We all agree that one part of the success of that summit, noted by the Government’s Economic Vice President, was security and the absence of incidents.”
María Rivas stressed that currently the staff of the Santiago police station exceeds 250 personnel, which is almost 20% more than five years ago, and reiterated the commitment to the recovery of personnel lost in the years of cuts. In addition, he advanced the next entry into service of the building attached to the Police Station, which will house the auditorium, the archive and the brigades, and “that will surely result in an improvement of the public services that you provide as well as allowing you to work more comfortably”.
The subdelegate highlighted the work of the men and women who make up the staff of the police station: “Thanks to your work and effort, the citizens are unanimous in highlighting from Compostela the feeling of citizen security in streets, shops and institutions, a perception that endorses the figures.” And he described as outstanding the police effectiveness achieved thanks to a crime clarification rate that is close to 50% in Santiago.
The mayor of Santiago, Goretti Sanmartín, the Superior Chief of the National Police of Galicia, Ramón Gómez Nieto, were also present at today’s inauguration; the general director of Emergencies and Interior of the Xunta, Santiago Villanueva; the rector of the University, Antonio López, among other authorities.
