The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, and the mayor, Santiago Freire, presided today the constitution of the Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence of the City of Noia. With Noia, there are currently 39 municipalities in the province of A Coruña that already have an Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence.
In her speech, the subdelegate pointed out that “collaboration between administrations and institutions is essential to achieve a society that is aware and aware of gender violence and equality.” “For administrations and institutions to go hand in hand, joining forces is a moral obligation. None of us could advance alone. We owe it to the thousands of women who suffered and suffer this kind of violence,” said Rivas.
At the coordination table in Noia are represented all the areas involved, directly or indirectly, in the fight against gender violence and the protection of victims, such as the educational, social and security forces.
Thus, the table includes representatives of the Civil Guard, the Local Police, the municipal social services, the Women’s Information Center (CIM), the health center and schools. The deputy delegate thanked the work and involvement of the Security Forces and Corps: “Each and every one of you is indispensable to guarantee the protection of victims, to prevent and detect cases of violence and, of course, to combat them.”
María Rivas recalled that in the province of A Coruña there are 2,210 active cases of gender violence in the VioGén system that have some kind of protection from the Security Forces and Corps, “2,210 reasons to continue working and to make available to the victims and their families all the resources we have at our disposal.”
For this reason, María Rivas thanked Santiago Freire, as well as the mayors of the other 38 municipalities of the province of A Coruña that have an Interinstitutional Coordination Table, for their involvement. “With this constitution, we take another necessary and transcendental step in the fight against gender violence,” he said, adding that the government “will not stop until we eradicate it.”
The task of the coordination tables is to offer tools to work on prevention, early detection of cases of male violence and to provide a quick response to victims, as well as for their protection. In this regard, the subdelegate stressed that the table is “a fundamental tool to combat male violence and we must take full advantage of it, from proposals, analysis, involvement, collaboration and work”.
In this first session of constitution of the table, important aspects such as the objectives to follow and operating rules among other issues were addressed. The priority function of this body is the coordination of actions in possible cases of violence that are detected, as well as of services and resources. In addition, actions in the field of prevention will be brought together.
Finally, the subdelegate of the government wanted to take the opportunity to encourage the city of Noia to join the VioGén protocol. Of the 58 municipalities in the province of A Coruña that have Local Police, there are currently 24 that are attached to the VioGén system, including the last two additions, Miño and Pontedeume. In the year 2023, Noia received 6,107.6 euros in the State Pact for prevention and awareness activities in the field of gender violence.
