The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, put in value in the city of Barreiros the bet of the Government of Spain for the conservation and improvement of the Galician coast, with an investment of more than 900,000 euros of the Recovery Plan to undertake improvements in the beaches of Arealonga and Valea. He visited the progress of the works accompanied by the deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, the mayor of Barreiros, Ana Ermida, and the second deputy mayor, Carmen Veiga.
The delegate recalled that the two projects led by the General Directorate for the Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea aim to recover the dune system of the beaches, financed with the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. “We saw with the progress of the works the commitment of the Government for the conservation of the landscape and environmental resources of the province, named of the Mariña region.”
In this line, Pedro Blanco stressed that “these interventions allow us to recover and maintain the great natural wealth predominant in the city of Barreiros, working on potential tourist attractions and improving these areas for the whole neighborhood”.
The delegate explained that “the greatest defense of the coastline are the projects in force, the assumption of responsible competences, financing and making reality the needs that are made notorious on our coasts, with serious and rigorous management.”
Performances in the two arenales
The works on the beach of Arealonga, with a value of 556,140 euros, consist of the recovery of the ecosystem through the demolition of structures and pavements in the dunar system, the eradication of invasive species that pose a major threat, as is the case of the grass of the Boquiabierta, the subsequent restoration of native species and the protection and enhancement of the dunar system. In turn, new accesses are being executed and existing ones will be improved. In addition, the project will be completed with the adaptation of the current service building for people with reduced mobility.
No case of the beach of Valea, with an investment of 347,500 euros, invasive species are also being eliminated, recovering the dunar system through environmental and access reorganization that protects the environment with a plantation of species of slow growth. A perimeter closure of wooden poles will also be built and the pavement damaged by the passage of time and storms will be replaced, creating a new accessible passage with a wooden walkway.
