The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, celebrated the agreement achieved by the Government within the framework of the EU Council of Fisheries Ministers that raises 10.5% the catches of hake for Spain, up to 11,000 tons, which is the most important figure of the century and a encouragement for the Galician fishing fleet, one of the most important in the Union.
In the words of the delegate, “this is a historic agreement resulting from a long, complex and difficult negotiation of which we are very satisfied, since we are complying with a sector of which hundreds of families live in our community and which is vital for the economy of many fishing villages.”
Pedro Blanco made these statements during a visit this morning at the facilities of Pesca Rubén, a leading group in the fishing sector, where he highlighted the support for the modernization and innovation of traditional sectors such as fishing for the growth and internationalization of Galician companies. No event was accompanied by the Government’s deputy delegate to Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez; the mayor of Foz, Francisco Cajoto; the mayor of Burela, Carmela López; and the manager of the company, Manolo Blanco, as well as members of its management team.
Pedro Blanco highlighted the government’s commitment to the fishing sector, “fundamental to the economy of Galicia and territories such as La Mariña, an activity that accounts for 7% of GDP.” The delegate stressed that Pesca Rubén “is a clear example of the support of the Government of Spain to Galician companies through the Recovery Plan, a finding that resources are reaching each and every sector, facilitating the transformation of the Galician and Lucense business fabric”.
In the visit to the facilities, several projects financed by the Government in the field of innovation and modernization were supervised, “initiatives that exceed more than 500,000 euros in aid and that demonstrate the commitment of the Government with a vital sector for Galicia, which will continue in this new legislature with the hand of Minister Planas to respond to the challenges of the present and the future”.
Funded projects
In particular, the funds allocated made it possible to build the line that completes the freezing tunnel, with the capacity to manage more than 100,000 kg of fish per day. A new production system was also introduced to produce fish hamburgers, and they are currently working from the R&D&I department on the implementation of a marketing plan to attract customers internationally in order to increase exports.
Business reference
Pedro Blanco thanked the manager, Manolo Blanco, and the whole team for the welcome, giving “my congratulations for all the work over these almost 40 years”, also recalling its beginnings “as a family company that through a lot of effort managed to consolidate itself as a reference in the distribution and marketing of fish, both in the national and international purchase”, he remarked.
In addition, he valued the company as a “reference for the country’s entrepreneurship, combining efficiency, sustainability and profitability”, also ensuring that “you will continue to count on our support, because this Government is the best ally for companies”.
