The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, began her speech by stating that “the Constitution is the natural reserve of our rights and freedoms”, and that therein lies its greatness.
In his speech, he stressed that “the Constitution reminds us that the superior values of Spain, as a social and democratic state of law, are freedom, justice, equality and political pluralism” and that for this reason “the Constitution is for everyone and for all people and generations”.
In an event that took place for the first time at the headquarters of the Subdelegation of the Government in A Coruña, a building that is part of the history of A Coruña, a history forged around a lighthouse and a port; this headquarters “today is again protagonist in the history of this liberal and progressive, open and lively, conciliatory and social city”.
This was affirmed in the event held this morning, organized with the aim of commemorating the 45th Anniversary of the Spanish Constitution of 1978, and in which the mayor of the city of A Coruña, Inés Rey, as well as other authorities participated.
Throughout her speech, the subdelegate stressed the importance of bringing the Constitution closer especially to the new people “because when talking about the Constitution we talk about equality, education, coexistence, rights and obligations, freedoms and duty” and that for this reason “it is the center of the political system and the legal system of Spain”.
In this sense, María Rivas pointed out that “our duty, as representatives of all Spaniards and Spaniards, is to act according to our Constitution” since it is the “framework of our coexistence”. Citing the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in his recent inauguration, the subdelegate indicated that “there is only democracy within the Constitution, because outside it and its rules there is no democracy, but imposition and whim.”
The subdelegate highlighted the Government’s commitment indicating that “it is time to move forward. To advance policies against inequalities, to advance policies that further strengthen our Welfare State, to advance policies that consolidate our country’s economic growth. To advance in harmony.”
Rivas indicated that on this path, collaboration, cohesion and institutional loyalty are fundamental; the participation of all and everyone as indicated in the Marga Charter, and thanked the State Security Bodies and Forces for their role as guarantors of our freedom and our rights.
The deputy delegate of the Government also wanted to thank the participation in this event of two schoolchildren from the province, who read several articles of the Constitution. Thus, the articles related to equality, freedom of expression, education and child protection were read. In this context, he recalled a quote from Mandela when he said that “boys and girls are not only the future of society, but the future of ideas.”
