The Deputy Delegate of the Government, María Rivas, today chaired the Local Security Board of the City of Sada, in which she highlighted the good results of joint action of the Local Police and the Civil Guard.
Before the start of the Local Security Board, the participants observed a minute of silence in revulsion for the last crime of male violence in Galicia that occurred last Friday in the town of Sigüeiro. With this one there are 55 women murdered by their partners or expats so far this year in Spain, 3 of them in Galicia.
The subdelegate of the Government wanted to call on all institutions and society to raise the voice against male terrorism and recalled that the fight against gender violence is a matter of State.
The common meeting held this morning in Sada was attended by the mayor of the town, Benito Portela, as well as representatives of the Local Police and the Civil Guard.
María Rivas highlighted the progress made during the meeting, highlighting the commitment and collaboration of all parties involved: “It is very positive to see how collaboration and coordination are enabling security challenges to be addressed.”
Rivas stressed the importance of maintaining coordination between security forces and bodies to implement effective strategies: “We are committed to working together to maintain and improve security at Sada. The data we review today provides us with valuable insights to focus our efforts more accurately and effectively.” And for that reason, the Police Coordination Commission composed of the Local Police and the Civil Guard was reactivated.
The data provided in the meeting reflect a crime rate of 28 crimes per 1000 inhabitants, thirteen points below the provincial rate that is 38, of the Galician that is 35 and very far from the national rate that is 46.
During the session, the coordination and exchange of information to work on crime prevention was discussed; therefore, all the members of the Local Security Board of Sada reaffirmed their commitment to continue working in close collaboration to ensure a safe environment for all neighbors and neighbors.
VioGene
The Board also addressed data on gender-based violence. The deputy delegate and the mayor of Sada analyzed the data provided by the VioGén victim protection system. Both expressed their absolute commitment in the fight against gender violence, and in the need to make all means available to always be on the side of the victims.
In this regard, they agreed to begin work together with the Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Subdelegation to advance the adhesion of the city of Sada to the VioGén system for the protection of victims as well as the constitution of the Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence.
The data provided by the Government’s subdelegate indicate that, “currently in the province of A Coruña there are 2,198 active cases of gender violence within the VioGén police system.” Each of these 2,198 women need some kind of support, surveillance or control to feel safe and be able to continue with their lives, “there are 2,198 women in the province who need our help, and they should not doubt that we are going to be by their side.”
For this reason, María Rivas again wanted to emphasize the need for local administrations to be integrated into the VioGén system, and that together with the rest of the security forces and bodies, the local police contribute to the protection of the women included in the system. The collaboration of local institutions is “indispensable to move forward. They are the ones who are most attached to the field, closer to the victims and with greater knowledge of their environment, so their participation in the VioGén system is fundamental.”
Rivas, recalled that there are already 24 municipalities adhered to VioGén, 44% of the 58 municipalities in the province that have Local Police; and 38 municipalities with Interinstitutional Coordination Tables. Likewise, he reported that the city of Sada, received from funds of the State Pact against Gender Violence a total 6,547.12 euros for the development of activities for prevention and awareness in this matter in the last year.
