The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, today highlighted the importance of coordination between the Security Forces and Corps to advance the security of the city of Narón. Together with the mayor of the municipality, Marián Ferreiro, the subdelegate co-chaired the Local Security Board in Narón and thus agreed to continue promoting coordination between the National Police and the Local Police to enhance the area of citizen security.
The subdelegate wanted to highlight the incorporation of the city of Narón to the Viogén System in the coming year and will also constitute the Interinstitutional Coordination Table on Gender Violence.
María Rivas stressed that “preventive and investigative work is key to increasing police safety and effectiveness rates” and noted that from the point of view of investigation and case resolution, “police effectiveness doubled in the city of Narón.”
The objective now is to continue, through collaboration and cooperation, in the improvement of the indicators analyzed. Both the Deputy Delegate of the Government and the Mayor seek to continue to lower the crime rate, continue improving citizen security and give a better response to the neighborhood of Narón, for which they agreed to continue on the path of cooperation between administrations.
In this same vein, the objective proposed by the National Police is to enhance the participation of citizens in order to increase the effectiveness of their response to situations of danger. In this way, they proposed that the National Police maintain permanent contact with neighborhood groups and hold meetings or talks on issues that concern them.
The meeting of the Local Security Board, which is held on an annual basis, allows the pooling of data for the current year, and the evaluation and comparative analysis in relation to data from previous years. The space chosen for the meeting was the City of Narón.
Viogen
The meeting also addressed the data related to gender violence, specifically, María Rivas and the mayor of Narón analyzed the data provided by the victim protection system VioGén. According to the Government’s deputy delegate, “there are currently 2,200 active cases of gender violence that are within the VioGén police system in the province” and noted that “there are 2,200 reasons to continue working tirelessly in this matter.”
For this reason, María Rivas stressed that collaboration and coordination on the part of all institutions involved in the follow-up of cases of gender violence is “indispensable to advance the protection of women victims of male violence and their families” and also that the VioGén system is a “fundamental instrument” to achieve this objective.
In this regard, the subdelegate expressed her satisfaction with the forthcoming incorporation of the Narón City Council into the VioGén system, as well as the constitution of the Interinstitutional Table against Gender Violence; both instruments are promoted by the government subdelegation.
In addition, María Rivas encouraged the municipalities of the province that have Local Police to join the VioGén system to “achieve a more just society and free of male violence”, as 24 municipalities adhered to VioGén and 38 municipalities with Interinstitutional Coordination Tables have already done.
In this regard, the subdelegate recalled that the Government of Spain in the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence transferred to the city of Narón 75.838.68 euros for the development of activities for prevention and awareness in this matter since 2018.
