The deputy delegate of the Government, Isabel Rodríguez, presided this morning the official act of taking possession of the new commissioner of the National Police in Lugo, Luis Miguel Romera Pérez. He did so together with the mayor of Lugo, Lara Méndez, and the superior chief of the Police in Galicia, Ramón Gómez Nieto, in a meeting that brought together public representatives and members of the National Police Force.
Isabel Rodríguez received this appointment “with great satisfaction because we know that the new commissioner knows his team for having developed since January 2022 the post of provincial chief of operations in the Lucense Police Station”, celebrating “with gratitude that from now on he will make available in Lugo his long experience after 37 years provided in an impeccable way to the National Police Force”.
The deputy delegate of the Government said that “in these months of proviso we have already checked the professionalism and commitment of the commissioner, leading a team that works in the search for the best for all Lucenses in terms of protection and security”. In this line, he indicated that Romera “has the task of responding to the new challenges that arise in order to guarantee the freedoms and rights of citizens.”
Rodríguez was “convinced that he will do a good job” at the head of the police station and wished him “the greatest successes in his new professional performance, working hand in hand to make each and every one of the territories of this province safer, in short, building a better society”.
Career path
Commissioner Luis Miguel Romera Pérez joined the Lugo Police Station as provincial chief of operations in January 2022, and now assumes the position of commissioner after serving 37 years in the National Police Force, which he acceded to as a police officer in 1986.
He had previously been head of the Valladolid Intervention Unit and was also stationed in Vitoria, Vigo, A Coruña and Bilbao.
Not his professional history highlights the participation in different protection devices of important events held in Spain, such as those organized on the occasion of the World Climate Summit 2019, the Coronation of His Majesty the Rei Felipe VI or the Olympic Games of Barcelona 1992.
He is in possession of 1 Police Merit Cross with Red Badge, 3 Police Merit Crosses with White Badge and 102 public congratulations.
As for his academic training, he holds a degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences from the University of A Coruña, a degree in Criminoloxy from the Universidad Rei Juan Carlos in Madrid and a diploma in Police Sciences from the University of Salamanca.
In addition, he conducted courses in Security and Protection of Buildings, Planning of Security Devices in Large Events, Restoration of Order in Penitentiary Establishments and Management and Command of Police Intervention Units. He also gave numerous courses on the specialty of Public Order and acting in mass events.
