The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, approached this morning to the Municipal Library Rego da Balsa de Carballo to deliver “Mavi, the travelling suitcase”, which contains different books with feminist and equality themes. The subdelegate wanted to encourage the reading of the books that are approaching the MAVI, or any other text with a feminist theme, to reflect and raise awareness about the need to continue taking steps towards equality.
In this regard, María Rivas shared that currently in the province of A Coruña there are 2,192 active cases in the VioGén system of protection of victims of gender violence, so that “the travelling suitcase provides the opportunity to train the neighbors of this city council in matters of equality and thus ensure that no machista behaviors continue to be exercised and tolerated.” The subdelegate noted that MAVI is “an essential tool to achieve a more egalitarian, fairer society and free from male violence.”
María Rivas wanted to highlight the municipalist nature of this initiative developed by the Government’s subdelegation, stressing the important role played by municipalities so that this type of campaigns reach the majority of the population, and especially the population of rural areas that have more difficulty accessing materials of this nature.
The objective of this suitcase, which will remain in Carballo for up to three months, is to promote reflection, awareness and awareness among the neighborhood about gender violence through activities that can be carried out using the books that the suitcase provides. In this way, the suitcase will reach municipal libraries and libraries of schools, foster homes or associations.

At the same time, it aims to promote critical thinking in the face of stereotypes and gender roles that are socially perpetuated and promote gender violence.

The MAVI suitcase is approaching Carballo on the occasion of the activities programmed by the subdelegation in commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, November 25, but its journey for equality will continue by the municipalities of the province that request it throughout the year.
Specifically, MAVI began its journey in the town hall of Vimianzo. From there he continued to Cedeira and the town hall of Mañón, passing through the town hall of Melide.
This year, the travelling suitcase added six more destinations to its route, its first stop being the Carmela Arias Díaz de Rábago Social Insertion Center in A Coruña to provide inmates with material that brings them reflections on topics of interest, as well as to encourage reading in the center. MAVI also visited the town hall of Cee.
Currently there are three other suitcases that are traveling through the province, apart from the one that today arrived at the library of Carballo: the first is in the town hall of Vimianzo, another in Santa Comba, and the last one in the Val do Dubra, which arrived more recently.
The travelling suitcase contains 14 titles written by women including ‘Rosalía Feminista’ by Helena González Fernández and ‘Inoculars. Stories of abuse’ by Montse Fajardo; as well as books aimed at children such as ‘Women of science’ by Rachel Ignotofsky or ‘Live the colored nails’ by Alicia Acosta and Luis Amavisca. It also includes a newspaper in which readers who wish to do so can reflect their experience through comments or suggestions with the aim of contributing to enrich this initiative that aims to be dynamic and improve their journey.
