The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided today over the Provincial Commission for Coordination on Gender Violence, composed of various agencies of the State Administration and in which the data related to the fight against male violence in 2022 and the first months of this year were analyzed, while at the same time the need to continue advancing in an adequate coordination between the different levels with competences in violence against women was stressed.
The committee was attended by the heads of the units against violence against women of the Subdelegation of the Government in A Coruña and the Delegation of the Government in Galicia, as well as representatives of the National Police, the Civil Guard, the Seconded Police Unit, the Prison Center of Teixeiro, the Social Insertion Center of A Coruña and the office of foreigners.
In the course of the meeting, the participants made an analysis of the updated figures, highlighting that today there are a total of 2,192 active cases in the province of A Coruña. The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, stressed that there are “2,192 reasons to continue working day by day, it fits with more intensity”.
This year’s data for 2023, updated as of November 16, indicate that there were 1,368 complaints of gender-based violence. 440 protection orders are in force; 405 users are active within the ATEMPRO system, and there are also 119 active telematic control devices.
As for the number of calls received at 016, they amount to 1,783. It is also important to point out that 388 women victims of violence entered the Active Insertion Income, a total of 21 bonus contracts were processed through the Public Employment Service for those companies that hired women victims of male violence; in the area of foreigners, 61 women obtained the corresponding residence and work permit.
ACTIVE CASES
There are currently in the province of A Coruña a total of 2,192 active cases of women victims of gender violence who have some kind of police protection. In view of the figures, and especially the number of feminicides that have been produced this year, the subdelegate conveyed the need to continue working. “The Government has and will continue to have among its priorities the fight against gender violence. Women victims need to know that we are by their side, and that we will continue to implement protective and accompanying measures so that they can feel safe and continue with their lives.”
In this commitment of the Executive to redouble efforts in the fight against male violence, the creation and constitution of new coordination tables in the municipalities of the province was promoted. These bodies place special emphasis, among other aspects, on the prevention of gender violence in minors. “Currently there are already 34 municipalities that work with coordination tables, but there is still much to do and we are working on that,” added Rivas.
Within this work, he pointed out that the Subdelegation also emphasizes the need for the adhesion of the local police of the different municipalities to the VioGén system. “This is crucial, as VioGén’s goal is to improve the quality of victim care, intensify case tracking for both victims and aggressors, and improve coordination with local law enforcement.”
Thus, the subdelegate wanted to highlight the important progress that has been made in the accession of municipalities to the VioGén system, going from only 3 municipalities in 2018 to the 24 that exist today. This means that currently, of the 58 municipalities in the province that have local police, and therefore able to join VioGén, 44% have already done so, which is undoubtedly a great advance.
María Rivas also wanted to highlight the actions carried out through the State Pact against Gender Violence, highlighting that in 2023 the municipalities of the province of A Coruña receive a total of 685,612.26 euros as a direct transfer, destined to work from the municipal field, through actions of awareness and dissemination in the fight against gender violence.
SERVICE ATEMPRO
The Subdelegate of the Government reported that in view of the continuous increase in the ATEMPRO Service (Telephone Service for the Protection of Victims of Violence against Women), the Government has expanded the coverage of the service to the victims of all types of violence against women.
Thus, the Government has just implemented a budget of 32,676,000 €, through the Recovery Funds, for the development of the improvement of this service, with the incorporation of new devices, and the creation of a comprehensive monitoring system through a computer application that incorporates the information of the users and also includes the participation of local entities. This tool is equipped with BigDATA analysis and Artificial Intelligence. The establishment of a State Coordination Centre against Male Violence is also planned.
This measure is fundamental in improving the care of victims and also results, as they said at the meeting of the Commission, in improving the service provided by the State Security Forces and Bodies.
