The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided today together with the mayor of Pontedeume, Bernardo Fernández Piñeiro, the Local Security Xunta of this municipality. In the course of the meeting, the subdelegate stressed that this town hall “thanks to the existing collaboration between the State Security Forces and Corps is a very safe Town Hall”.
Thus, he stressed that Pontedeume has a crime rate (prison offences per 1,000 inhabitants) of 21, which places it 7 points below the measure of the province that is located at 38, and very far (25 points) from the national average rate that is 45. María Rivas stressed that “the data show that when there is collaboration and joint work, the response is very positive, which should lead us to continue moving forward on this path”.
The meeting also addressed the need to plan citizen security for the summer season and the celebration of events and parties with a large influx of public; in relation to this issue the subdelegate transmitted her “total willingness” to collaborate with the city from the Subdelegation, from the State Security Forces and Bodies to, in a coordinated way with the Local Police and municipal services, establish the necessary security devices during the summer, in a municipality with a large tourist influx.
María Rivas pointed out that “at any time of the year, the coordination carried out by the Civil Guard and the Local Police is important, an issue that I want to acknowledge and thank, but which is especially taken care of during the summer season to ensure the safety of all.”
In the same way, a coordinated work will be done to establish the most suitable operation for the celebrations of events and parties with a large influx of public.
Gender violence
After the recent accession of the city of Pontedeume to the VioGen System of comprehensive monitoring of cases of male violence, this meeting also addressed aspects related to gender violence in the city. In addition, the mayor, Bernardo Fernández Piñeiro, announced that he will take the next plenary session for approval to establish the Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence, a body in which the areas involved, directly or indirectly, in the battle against this social scourge are represented.
The subdelegate recalled that the VioGen system is “a fundamental instrument for coordination and for better and more effective protection of victims, for this reason the Subdelegation encourages all municipalities in the province to join, since at this time there are 2,184 victims of gender violence with active cases in the province,” said the subdelegate after ensuring that the Government will not stop “until a society free of male violence is achieved.”
Government collaboration with Local Government
The subdelegate of the Government reported on the School Coexistence Plan framed within the Master Plan, and which aims to work on prevention and awareness, and strengthen confidence in the State Security Forces and Corps. This Plan, coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior, focuses its work on prevention and awareness in schools; this year it wants to strengthen training on protection and prevention of the risks associated with new technologies, focusing on these new ways to exercise violence, such as social networks and other digital services.
Within the Activity Plan, the centers can choose training actions such as bullying, violence against women, drugs, alcohol, other additions (gambling, video games...), nature protection, hate crimes and discrimination, road safety, prevention of sexual crimes, professional guidance and legal protection of personal data.
The Government Delegation already has 900 requests from educational centers throughout Galicia to host talks and training activities, under this Master Plan.
The subdelegate also remarked that the Plan “The Administration Near You” that is developed in collaboration with the FEMP (Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces) is in its second phase of execution. This Plan, whose objective is to bring information on the resources available through the different digital platforms to the municipalities, invites in this second phase the municipalities to join and request the technical assistance services that are most appropriate to their problems.
Finally, he recalled that for municipalities with less than 8,000 inhabitants, as in the case of Pontedeume, the Government has set up a collaborative system for advice and assistance in the processing of municipal projects, under the auspices of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan Funds. This collaboration, each city council can make it effective by requesting it through the company Tragsa-TEC.
The deputy delegate of the Government, María Rivas, wanted to highlight that these tools are designed to continue bringing to the municipalities, especially the smallest ones, all the aid of the State through the Recovery Funds, and also to make available programs as important as the Master Plan or the Plan “The Administration near you”.
