The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, called during the act of the subdelegation of the Government for the 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, for the importance of not taking any step backwards to eradicate this scourge that thousands of women and girls are living in our parents every day.
The subdelegate, together with the Head of the Gender Violence Unit of the Subdelegation, María Luisa Castro, and other members of public institutions, the Police and the Civil Guard, expressed her absolute rejection of all forms of male violence, “a structural violence that is the cruellest expression of discrimination, the situation of inequality and the power relations of men over women.”
Isabel Rodríguez recalled that exercising violence against women is synonymous with violating every fundamental right, referring “to life, liberty, physical and moral integrity, equality and dignity of women, the rights of children and the right to decide freely on the development of one’s life.”
From the Government, this translates into the adoption and development of a set of public policies that aim to prevent and respond to all forms of violence, always having as its main axis the well-being of the victims and their safety.
Among the measures adopted this year that, if it marks a turning point, we find the implementation of normative news that has as its main motivation the express consent, as well as compliance with the State Pact against Gender Violence, further closing the protection of victims. Also the consolidation of crisis cabinets to give a response to feminicides among other norms.
One of the most important milestones made in this field is included in the Progress Report of the State Pact against Gender Violence 2018-2022, which shows results in which among the total measures, 96.8% are fulfilled or in process and only 3.2% are pending execution.
In addition, the deputy delegate reaffirmed this fight towards having been from our borders, placing Spain “at the forefront of international action to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, collaborating with partner countries in the development of systems that help prevent these crimes, protect victims and prosecute perpetrators”
“The fight against male violence is part of the heart of our democracy, and it is from this commitment to human rights and fundamental freedoms that the Government wants to send a message of recognition and tribute once again to all women, girls and boys victims of male violence, to whom she is not, to their families, and to all the survivors” concluded the subdelegate reading the manifesto
