The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, wanted to value the campaign that is carried out on the social networks of the Government Delegation in Galicia to promote reflection, awareness and awareness among young people around gender violence.
María Rivas stressed the importance of developing campaigns like this aimed at young people: “Victim safety and protection is just one part of the government’s work to combat gender-based violence, but we also need to do other training work on equality and prevention, especially for young people, to ensure that they and they do not continue to tolerate and engage in sexist behaviour.”
The campaign aims to help distinguish toxic and sexist behaviors that can occur within a relationship; and report on the incidence of this type of violence through data and statistics related to different situations. In this way, it tries to show the messages perpetuated by patriarchy, such as control through physical appearance or limitation of privacy when asking for mobile passwords.
Among the publications already made we can find data such as that the greatest increase in the number of victims of gender violence occurred among young people under 18 years of age, 28.6%; that 25% of adolescents between 16 and 17 years of age suffered psychological violence and that this percentage rises to 24% if we take the range of 16 to 24 years, often manifested through the control of mobile keys (15% of boys control their partners through mobile).
The campaign is guided by a play on words around ‘Crush’: a term frequently used by youth that refers to the feeling of strong attraction you can feel for a person, a couple or a league; and ‘Catacrush’ that could be assimilated to ‘Catastrophe’, in order to counterpose a real ‘crush’ to a relationship disaster with a person who does not really want his partner in a healthy way. So, the end of each post urges you to ask yourself if it’s not #crush, it’s #catacrush
The images that are part of the campaign adopt a format familiar to young people, imitating the interface used by a popular dating application, which has a ‘Like’ button and another ‘Don’t like’ button to accept or reject knowing the person who shows you the app; in this case they are replaced by ‘Crush’ or ‘Catacrush’ to emphasize the idea of rejection of male chauvinistic behaviors.
The network campaign takes place this week on the official Twitter and Facebook profiles of the Government Delegation in Galicia, and is framed within the activities organized by the Government subdelegation in A Coruña on the occasion of the celebration of November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
