The government subdelegate in Lugo read the manifesto for the commemoration of the World Day in memory of traffic victims and stressed that responsible and undistracted driving at the wheel is fundamental in the prevention of multiple fatal accidents. The subdelegate made this appeal on the occasion of the commemoration of the World Day in Memory of the Victims of Traffic Accidents. The head of the provincial traffic headquarters, Ángel Álvarez, and other authorities were not present.
Isabel Rodríguez reminded the people who died so far this year on the roads and tracks of the province and appealed to the responsibility of the drivers to adapt the driving to the conditions of the track, since “the most frequent issue that has to be faced by means of the Provincial Traffic Headquarters and other emergency services and assistance is the exit of the track,” he explained. “On the occasion of this day, I would like to remind drivers to respect the rules and conduct responsible driving, maintaining the vehicles correctly and focusing their attention on the road, thus avoiding all elements that may come into play when triggering an accident.”
Rodríguez also stressed the need for driving to develop in the best physical and psychological conditions to avoid nudity or distractions, as well as, in case of drowsiness or any counterproductive state, stop the crossing in a safe place and stop to rest.
The deputy delegate also thanked the DGT for its work to raise security awareness. He also showed his appreciation to all the personnel of the emergency services, police, civil guard, health services, organizations and other bodies and services that participate at the time of helping the victims.
According to data from the DGT, the accidents caused that 18 people had died this year on the urban and interurban roads and roads of the province, and caused that 76 injured people had required hospitalization. Of these accidents, 15 of the deceased were on interurban roads in the province.
The event took place with the reading of the manifesto approved this year for the commemoration followed by a minute of silence in memory for people who died or were injured in road accidents.
